Job summary
A Consultant Geriatrician is required for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), part of University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Department of Healthcare for Older People provides a comprehensive service for older adults, leading on the care of older adults across both hospital and community settings. The speciality wishes to recruit additional consultants: these are a combination of new and replacement posts. We welcome and can accommodate all sub-specialty interests. We provide front door frailty provision and comprehensive geriatric assessment to our local population.
The services offered at QEHB include:
*Inpatient care on Healthcare for Older People (HCOP) wards.
*Older Peoples Assessment & Liaison (OPAL) front door frailty.
*Frailty Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
*OPAL+ - interface geriatrics.
*Peri-operative medicine including ortho-geriatrics, major trauma service, peri-operative care of older people undergoing surgery (POPS) and onco-geriatrics.
*Sub-specialty clinics including movement disorders, frailty, falls and bone health.
*Academic geriatric medicine with established links to the University of Birmingham.
*Frailty virtual wards.
*Community geriatrics including in reach services to the local community hubs.

Main duties of the job
Prerequisite:
*Must be entered onto the GMC register.
*Must possess MRCP or equivalent.
*Must be on the Specialist Register in Geriatric & General Medicine or within 6 months of CCT in Geriatric & General Medicine.
Key Clinical Responsibilities:
*Care of inpatients
*Administrative duties related to patient care.
*Contribution to undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
*Regular participation in speciality and multidisciplinary meetings.
*Regular participation in quality improvement, audit and research.
*Provision of cover for consultant colleagues' periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within Trust policy.
*Evening, weekend and bank holiday on-call commitments for general medicine and specialty.
*Support of the speciality and wider hospital in emergencies
Indicative job plan:
The post is 10 programmed activities, but working less than full time can be accommodated. The job plan will be tailored to a candidate's specialist interest, with opportunities available across acute and community settings.
8.0 PA Direct Clinical Care:
*7-day senior-led patient care
*Subspecialty work and associated administration
*Prospective cover for colleagues' leave
*Up to 1PA for acute unselected medical take.

*CME/ CPD/ Appraisal/ Revalidation
*Clinical Governance/ Audit
*Service Development
*Teaching
*Educational supervision
*A detailed job plan will be agreed with the post holder on appointment.
