Job summary
Due to the expansion of our service, an opportunity has arisen to join the small, friendly administrative team of RRPPS's Approved Dosimetry Service.
RRPPS is the Radiation Protection Service of University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We provide the full range of medical physics and radiation protection services to UHBFT and external customers, including an HSE-approved Approved Dosimetry Service (ADS). The ADS provides monitoring "badges" to staff working with radiation; these are worn for a period then returned to be read and reported.
This post involves preparing dosemeters; issuing them to customers and receiving them back at the end of the monitoring period; updating the bespoke ADS database; sending out dose reports; and dealing with customer queries.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable using standard office software and have experience of data input. Good dexterity and attention to detail is essential
Main duties of the job
The post holder provides administrative support to the Approved Dosimetry Service. This involves:
*Using an agreed procedure to collate and send out radiation dosemeters and associated paperwork, ensuring dosemeters match the paperwork and are issued to the correct client and wearer.
*Collecting post daily, prioritising by placing in date order and checking for returns from "classified" workers.
*Checking returned dosemeters for any damage or contamination.
*Checking that dosemeters returned by clients are consistent with paperwork (usually returned by the client)
*Logging receipt of dosemeters on a specialised computer system, adding pre-defined comments where appropriate.
*Entering and amending personal details as notified by clients onto the computer system, which contains records for over 100,000 individuals
*Allocating and sending out additional or one-off dosemeters for clients as and when requested.
*Performing pre-defined checks on data to ensure records are correct.
*Sending, by email, letters produced by technologists and senior colleagues relating to high doses, incorrect use of dosemeter etc.
*Supplying dosemeters to the Physicists and Technicians within RRPPS for use on surveys.
*Receiving and dealing with telephone calls from clients. This involves using initiative and judgement to pass on non-routine calls.
*Providing and receiving routine information orally, in writing, by e-mail or in person to or from clients.
