Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is looking to welcome applicants to join our friendly, dynamic and enthusiastic team of Stroke Consultants who has the passion to develop and provide high quality Stroke Services for the local population.
UHB hosts a Comprehensive Stroke Centre providing hyper-acute stroke care, acute stroke care, thrombectomy 24/7, thrombolysis 24/7, rehabilitation, outpatient/follow-up clinics inc. TIA and research. Our HASU/ASU is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham site, accompanied by our Acute Stroke Units at the Heartlands and Good Hope hospital sites covering most of Birmingham and the surrounding area. We are also closely aligned to the rehabilitation ward at Moseley Hall Hospital. The stroke service actively participates in the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme (SSNAP).
This post can be modified to suit the candidate's interest and parent specialty, but time in our Good Hope hospital's acute stroke unit and in Comprehensive Stroke Centre delivering a Thrombectomy service to the local area is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in this aspect of Stroke care. We also have the flexibility to provide a bespoke job plan that encompasses your academic, teaching or research interests.
UHB also hosts the Integrated Stroke Delivery Network for the West Midlands Region.
Main duties of the job
*Shared ward round duties of ASU patients in Good Hope or Heartland Hospital
*Participation in the on-call rota for thrombolysis / mechanical thrombectomy
*Shared care of in-patients on Ward 8 Moseley Hall Hospital (depending on parent specialty interest)
*Weekly TIA clinics at base hospital
* Review of TIA/Stroke referrals and outliers with support from Stroke ACPs and Junior Medical staff.
*Participation in audit and clinical governance activities including monthly Departmental Meeting.
*Educational supervision of junior staff shared equitably with the other consultants.
*Participation in the running of the service.
*Supervision of the band 7 Stroke Nurse Specialists whilst On-Call
