Job opportunities are now available within our Stroke Unit based at Heartlands Hospital.
Ward 32 has 24 beds and is based within the new modular ward. There is a close working relationship with all members of the multidisciplinary team. The team is made up primarily of the stroke medical team, the therapists, dieticians and speech and language teams are all part of the services we offer to our stroke patients.
Due to the interesting nature of stroke care our patients tend to stay on the ward for some time, this enables the nursing staff to really get to know their patients, carers and family. The holistic way in which care delivery is conducted allows the nursing staff to understand all the fundamentals of what quality care means.
There is also a focus on safe discharge from hospital, which also gives nursing staff great exposure to working with complex discharge teams and community teams.
The nursing team are dynamic in their approach to care and have the patient at the centre of all decision making. We care for a variety of patients with multiple needs ensuring high standards of care delivery is always maintained.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person centred evidence based nursing that respects and maintains dignity and human rights. They will be responsible for assessment of care needs of patients and planning programmes of care, implementing and the evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. They will be responsible for supporting and supervising junior members of staff and students on the ward.
They will be required to work as part of a team although have the clinical skills and knowledge to work independently when required using safe and effective judgement.
The post holder will practice in a holistic, non-judgmental, caring and compassionate manner that avoids assumptions, supports social inclusion and recognises and respects individual choice and acknowledges diversity. They will work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, students and trainees and agency, service users, their carers and families. The post holder will contribute to the practice development within their clinical care setting and work in accordance with Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines and will be responsible for completing and work based training associated with the role.
