Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Radiopharmacy team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The licenced Radiopharmacy unit supplies key radiopharmaceuticals to the large Nuclear Medicine department in the Trust for both diagnostic and therapeutic use as well as other local hospitals. The service has a well-established blood cell labelling service and produces Gallium-68 radiopharmaceuticals (PSMA and dota-peptide) for imaging on site.
The post-holder will be responsible for providing scientific support and will share in the daily operational management of the unit with other senior staff. You will participate in the preparation and production of radiopharmaceuticals and blood cell labelling in line with GMP requirements adhering to the quality system of the unit. You will registered with GPhC or HCPC or eligible to do so following completion of relevant training. You should be familiar with GMP/GDP, Medicines Act and licensing requirements and have a thorough knowledge of both the IRR 2017 and IR(ME)R 2018 legislation and their application. The post holder will, lead in maintaining and developing the quality system for gallium, therapy and blood labelling operations. You will be actively involved in the training, supervision and development of staff/students and will be involved in developing the departments research profile and exploring future clinical trials opportunities.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will assist the Radiopharmacy Specialist Leads with the daily delivery of the service and will share in the operational management of the QEHB Radiopharmacy unit.
You should have considerable experience in a Radiopharmacy setting and be familiar with the operation of a comprehensive service. The role will require work to be undertaken unsupervised and will require excellent communication skills with staff groups and other stakeholders. Excellent knowledge of GMP and radiation protection legislation is essential as you will be responsible for managing the Quality Management System for gallium, therapy and blood cell labelling activities.
You will be a team player with enthusiasm and drive to develop a service, implement change and ensure compliance with all internal and external standards. The post holder must have a strong awareness of the latest radiopharmaceutical developments and be willing to share departmental work with the wider Radiopharmacy / Nuclear Medicine community.
You will be required able to demonstrate the ability to be flexible, organised and remain calm under pressure, directing staff where required.
