Job summary

Are you up to the challenge of leading an established team of highly skilled ACCP's in a large demanding and dynamic critical care department? If so, we are seeking to appoint a Lead ACCP at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham to manage and guide our experienced teams. We are looking for an ACCP with at least four years post qualification experience, they must be affiliated with the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM), be able to function in a highly demanding environment and have the ability to lead experienced ACCPs whilst nurturing numerous trainees at various stages of training. The successful candidate must be able to work alongside the other Lead ACCP at UHB to deliver a strategy for the onward development of the ACCP service at the Trust.

Main duties of the job

If Successful you will spend a proportion of your time in your clinical role on the intensive care unit, working alongside your team, as well as nursing and medical staff to provide high quality critical care to patients from a wide variety of specialities in a tertiary critical care department. You will undertake and teach clinical skills and ensure high standards are maintained whilst delivering care to critically ill patients. In your non-clinical time, among other duties, you will spend time managing your team as well as collaboratively developing an ACCP strategy, liaising with the senior nursing and management teams and ensuring high standards are maintained in critical care. This demanding role requires you to be full time, and there will be some unsocial hour working. This Lead ACCP role is mainly based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital but may require some cross site working at other hospitals in the Trust and may require cross cover if the other Lead in the Trust is not available.

  • * Professional Healthcare Registration with a UK Regulatory Body ( NMC / HCPC / GphC)
  • * Post Graduate Qualification in specific speciality or equivalent experience.
  • * MSc or Level 7 equivalent portfolio of 180 CATs (Must cover all 4 Pillars of advanced clinical practice) -- Portfolio must include evidence of health assessment module at Level 7.
  • * Non -- Medical Prescribing Course -- where applicable to registration
  • * Advanced Life Support Qualification
  • * Must be an Associate ACCP member of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM).

  • * Substantial autonomous practice working as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner in a multi professional practice setting as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • * Evidence of on-going CPD relevant to the role / professional regulation
  • * Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) / HCPC / regulatory standards for student supervision and assessment.
  • * Experience in developing and implementing governance/ safety frameworks to support service and quality delivery, improvement and sustainability including learning from incidents or quality assurance audits/ patient and carer feedback and National policy.
  • * Evidence of teaching in a variety of environments
  • * Experience resource manager with experience in staff / performance & management and financial control mechanisms.
