Job summary
An outstanding opportunity to join the Diabetes Team has presented itself. Due to expansion of the Type 1 Diabetes Service we are recruiting a Consultant Diabetologist to join our dynamic, forward thinking team across all UHB sites. Clinical academic PAs available and also opportunities to "try before you sign" with NHS locum positions.
This post is looking for consultants with a particular interest in developing the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) service including Antenatal Care across the trust as well as playing an active part in a busy diabetes and endocrinology department with contributions to general internal medicine. There is potential of clinical academic PAs available as part of this post.
The successful candidate will be required to
*assist with developing the T1D service (particularly diabetes technology)
*participate in diabetes and/or endocrinology outpatient clinics
*provide support to diabetes and endocrinology specialist nurse team
*contribute to diabetes and endocrinology MDTs, grand round, audit and medical hot case review meetings
*provide diabetes and endocrinology specialist support to other inpatient medical teams
*provide senior medical cover for inpatients with general medical, diabetes and endocrinology related conditions
*participate in general medicine on-call rota
*support learning and development of junior medical staff and specialist nurse teams
*take the opportunity to develop an area of interest and have a leadership role in this area
Main duties of the job
The Department:
We are a large endocrinology & diabetes service providing secondary and tertiary care, we are highly regarded nationally.
*The Type 1 diabetes service at University Hospital Birmingham NHS FT is one of the largest in the country. It serves a population that is diverse both in ethnicity and demographics and is spread across 4 hospitals in Birmingham.
*These cross-hospital services are very cohesive and there is excellent communication and coordination between the different sites.
*We provide all aspects of specialist T1D care. This includes structured education (DAFNE), insulin pump, glucose sensing, hybrid closed loop therapy and beta cell replacement (both islet and pancreas transplantation).
*The service was one of the largest contributors to the recent NHSE Hybrid Closed Loop.
*Supporting exercise education for type 1 diabetes (EXTOD) and clinical research are core interests of the service. The majority of patients are offered participation in one or more clinical studies.

*Up to date with state of the art technology to support people with Type 1 Diabetes
