Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham is one of the largest acute Trusts in England and we are proud to deliver and be recognized for providing high quality care. We have three Maternity units with approximately 9500 births per annum.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable person to join our team who is able to work flexibly within the shift patterns in our very busy maternity units, this includes some bank holidays. Vacancies exist for either full or part time Maternity Care Assistants (MCA) to work within our Maternity Units at both Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and Good Hope Hospital. You will be expected to rotate onto both days and night duties.
23-37.5 hours per week available.
Main duties of the job
The primary role of the Maternity Care Assistant is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centered care.
It is under the direct or indirect supervision of the midwife that the MCA assists with and provides personal care following completion of any relevant or appropriate training. The post is rotational and the employee will be provided with appropriate training for the clinical setting in which they are working. These settings include antenatal inpatient or outpatient care, intrapartum inpatient care and postnatal inpatient and outpatient care.
You will undertake the Trust Induction Programme and undertake Manual Handling training. You will have excellent organisational, time-management and interpersonal skills and an ability to work within a team and on your own initiative is essential.
It is essential that you have 6 months experience in a healthcare setting, GCSE Maths and English Qualifications. Knowledge and experience in using IT systems and some knowledge of maternity services are desirable.
You must be open to change and interested in your own personal development. You must have the ability to communicate effectively and be flexible within the existing shift system and have an appreciation of the principles of confidentiality. You must be a team player, responsible for providing a wide range of care and duties to support women and their families.
