Job summary

The Allergy and Immunology department based at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Allergy and Immunology. The department is well established and is dually accredited by the Royal College of Physicians under the IQAS and QPIDS accreditation schemes. Furthermore, the service was awarded the status of Centre of Excellence by The World Allergy Organization in 2020. The department comprises a group of enthusiastic and friendly multidisciplinary professionals including consultants, specialist nurses, allergy dietician, pharmacist, specialist trainees and administrative/managerial staff who are actively involved in service development, teaching and research. The department has strong collaborative links with the University of Birmingham for teaching and research.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to serve a multi-ethnic population in Birmingham and neighbouring counties and contribute to allergy, immunodeficiency and laboratory immunology. The service has dedicated sections offering specialist services including allergen-specific immunotherapy, drug allergy, food allergy, omalizumab for chronic urticaria, hereditary angioedema and immunoglobulin replacement therapy.

Main duties of the job

1.Clinical activities: General allergy, Immunology, specialist allergy and immunology clinics, allergy and immunology MDTs and clinical liaison

2.Laboratory activities: Participate in laboratory authorisation of results and contribute to quality assurance activity and laboratory innovation

3.Audit and research: Undertake/participate in department audit and support research

4.Administrative: Leading sub-sections of the service and supporting Clinical Service Lead to achieve service objectives and excellence

5.Teaching: Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical and educational supervisory roles for specialist trainees in Allergy and Immunology
