Applications are invited for a locum Consultant Cardiologist, initially for 12 months pending confirmation of permanent funding. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with training in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) to join our passionate and enthusiastic team and play a key role in developing and improving the provision of ACHD services across University Hospitals Birmingham.
This post is for a Consultant Cardiologist based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful applicant will be experienced in adult cardiology with training in ACHD. An additional sub-specialty interest would be encouraged. The post holder will be fully trained in ACHD investigation and management and will contribute to both inpatient and outpatient services. Additional interests will be accommodated within a job plan dependent on the successful applicants skill set.

Main duties of the job
The new appointee will be required to share in the running of the ACHD service for acute and elective patients. They will share consultant inpatient care of ACHD patients, ensuring at least 3 consultant-led ward rounds a week, in addition to clinical meetings and clinical audit sessions. It is anticipated that they will initially take responsibility for 3-4 outpatient clinics and a potential sub-speciality interest in addition to providing a general cardiology service. There will be a commitment to contribute to weekly ACHD MDT meetings. The new appointee will have a key role in further developing all aspects of the ACHD service.
As a consultant, the appointee will have full responsibilities for patients under his/her care within a multidisciplinary team structure. Several ACHD outreach clinics are undertaken throughout the West Midlands and the successful applicant may be required to contribute to these.
The appointee will share clinical responsibility in running the clinical work of the department and take part in the joint on call rota of the department, 1:18 for general cardiology. All QE based consultants contribute to deliver the cardiology in-reach service to the acute medical unit, currently 8-4 Monday to Friday.
The ability to communicate and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team is vital. It is also anticipated that the successful candidate will contribute to increasing the national profile of the department, including taking part in research.
