Job summary

The Matron for Maternity Governance is an integral leadership role in maternity services. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife who is passionate about enhancing safety and outcomes for mothers and babies.

The post holder working in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary governance team will have responsibility for operational management of clinical governance and risk management processes to provide assurance in the safe working and effective practice within the maternity department. A proactive approach to risk management and the patient safety agenda will support the embedding of high clinical standards alongside quality improvement initiatives to reduce harm and identify risks related to morbidity and mortality.

Main duties of the job

Provide effective leadership and management skills which promote a proactive approach to clinical governance and risk management.

Lead on risk management including investigating and taking corrective actions, referring and escalating as appropriate in collaboration with the Trust corporate Governance team.

Initiate strategies to ensure departmental and clinical governance requirements are met and ensure delivery of a high quality service.

To understand all national initiatives and assist in the implementation in order to influence patient care and service delivery.

Promote best practice.

To work with maternity and neonatal services in meeting statutory requirements and clinical governance objectives for external assessment such as CNST.

Collect and coordinate all data required to be sent on behalf of the trust to external agencies.

Experience

  • Significant experience in a senior midwifery post at Band 7 or above
  • Proven experience of service development and delivery and business planning
