Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) provide local, regional and supra-regional cardiology services. These include adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), interventional cardiology, heart failure, imaging, electrophysiology and congenital and acquired cardiac surgery. There are close links between the NHS cardiology department and the University of Birmingham. Facilities include 8 catheter laboratories and the full range of non-invasive investigations including cardiac MR, nuclear cardiology and echo suites. The Trust is one of the largest in the UK and also houses the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine. A new Institute for Translational Medicine (ITM) opened in 2015.
This post is for a Locum Consultant Interventional Cardiologist based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The successful applicant will be experienced in adult interventional cardiology. The appointee will be on the on-call rota for intervention including primary PCI and will be responsible for assessment and management of in-patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The successful candidate will be fully trained in coronary intervention investigation and management and will contribute to both the inpatient and outpatient services. Any additional interest will be accommodated within a job plan dependent on the successful applicants skill set
This is a locum post.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of the service. The appointee will
*Join the Cardiology Consultant team and be a full member of the Consultant body of the Trust, accountable to the Clinical Service Lead
*Support the directorate in meeting key performance indicators
*Deliver agreed standards of care and work, with MDTs, to improve standards
*Provide inpatient and outpatient care to chest pain/intervention patients by delivering clinics and ward rounds.
*Contribute to the 1 in 7 Primary PCI rota
*Allow greater flexibility through effective cover of sickness and annual leave
*Provide professional supervision, direction and training for junior medical staff
*Take an active role in audit, research, teaching and governance
A mentor will be allocated within the Trust.
Subject to the provisions of the terms and conditions of service the post holder must observe agreed policies on clinical matters and should follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Hospital.
Specific Responsibility
The successful candidate will be experienced in adult Interventional cardiology.
Cardiology On-Call
Cardiology on call QEH is provided on a consultant of the week model 1 in 22. There is also a separate in-reach service to AMU. All QE consultants contribute to this.
There is a separate PCI on call rota (1 in 7).
Location
The primary location is Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
