Job summary

At UHB we see a large cohort of Paediatric patients age 0-16 years across Heartlands, Good Hope, Queen Elizabeth and Solihull Hospitals.

We are keen to ensure the workforce at UHB has the appropriate level of knowledge and skill to deliver safe, high quality care to all of our children and their families.

We are seeking an experienced Paediatric nurse who is confident and competent to deliver training across all UHB sites and to diverse groups of staff.

You must be a positive role model who promotes professionalism at all times.

You will need to be able to demonstrate a range of clinical skills, be a credible practitioner and have the confidence to assist with designing and delivering programmes to train and assess staff members using a range of teaching methods.

You should be creative, organised and flexible to deliver training in a variety of settings and at different times.

The post holder will join an established Paediatric education team who provide training across UHB Monday-Friday in daytime hours.

This is an exciting time to join the team as we are expanding our paediatric portfolio and participating in new projects to develop the workforce for the future. This post will concentrate on the skills and simulation part of our growing portfolio.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 with a lead role in Paediatric education you will contribute to the development and

implementation of the Paediatric Simulation & Skills portfolio across UHB

Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of education programmes delivered to clinical staff working with children aged 0-16 years at UHB.

Support the recruitment and retention of staff by providing clinical training and education that builds confidence and competence.

Work collaboratively to provide a comprehensive induction for new recruits in Health Care Assistant, Trainee Nurse Associate, International and Registered Nursing roles.

Support staff development by working alongside nurses in the clinical environment

Provide pastoral care to all paediatric staff

Independently deliver clinical skills training which will involve elements of research, designing structured session plans, formal and informal teaching styles and the ability to assess staff competence.

Represent the paediatric education team on trust wide training initiatives

Work collaboratively with the Paediatric Educators & UHB Lead Educator- Commission Education and Quality to implement the paediatric simulation and skills work stream.

Record details of training delivered and identify any performance related issues.

Promote a positive attitude to learning and be a role model for excellent practice / professional conduct.

Display an effective leadership style to ensure standards of quality care are maintained and risks are mitigated.
