Due to the continued development and expansion of the Pre-Operative Assessment Service, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, experienced Band 5 Nurse to become part of a well-established and progressive team. A challenging and busy environment the Pre-Operative Assessment Service works within UHB as a specialist team, providing assessment, health promotion, medication reviews and advice to a wide group of patients prior to surgery. The service is nurse led and therefore training will be provided for clinical examination (heart and lung assessment), ECG interpretation, interpreting blood results and the opportunity to attend the Pre-Operative Association Foundation Course for Nurses.
The ideal candidate will have 12-18 months nursing experience, a holistic approach to care, excellent communication and organizational skills with a willingness to learn and develop within this specialist field of nursing. This is an exciting role for an experienced Registered Nurse to work with patients to help plan their surgical journey.

Main duties of the job
To ensure a high standard of patient care is delivered in an effective and efficient manner reflecting the overall philosophy of the service.
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care in line with local and national guidelines
Act as a role model delivering care on a nurse led basis to ensure patients are suitable for anaesthetic.
Contribute to the development of a learning culture to ensure growth and development of the nursing team and the unit.
Successful achievement of competencies and training is required to facilitate full undertaking of the role. Duties include: assessing patients face to face and via telephone, reviewing investigation results and liaising with other members of the multi-disciplinary team in planning for admission and discharge.
