An exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) for an experienced NMC/HCPC registered professional to become a Trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) within Critical Care. We are seeking highly motivated, experienced and ambitious personnel to support the ongoing growth of our innovative ACCP programme.
Applicants are welcomed from those professional groups eligible to undertake non-medical prescribing under current statutory requirements. You will be a motivated team player who possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Critical Care at UHB will give you the opportunity to learn within a large Teaching Hospital that specialises in a wide range of disciplines. Alongside clinical experience, there are extensive development opportunities that can be developed through multidisciplinary involvement.
Successful applicants will be required to undertake an MSc in Advanced Critical Care Practice through the apprenticeship programme, being supernumerary for 2 years during the training period.
Once shortlisted by UHB you will be expected to apply to the University of Plymouth to undertake a regional selection assessment on 21-22 June. If successful at the University of Plymouth, you will then be invited for a UHB interview.

Main duties of the job
In this advanced training role, the post holder will provide expert clinical management and care to patients requiring levels 1-3 care in Critical Care in a role traditionally performed by medical staff.
The post holder will work in a supernumerary training capacity for 2 years practising under direct or indirect supervision of a Consultant Supervisor. This will encompass training in the skills of advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice throughout the directorate.
The post holder will be required to undertake and complete a bespoke programme of education to achieve a Master's level qualification in Advanced Critical Care Practice and Independent Prescribing to meet the Faculty of Intensive Care Curriculum (FICM) knowledge, skills and competencies and achieve FICM membership.
This post will involve rotation between 5 Critical Care units and theatres, which includes a cross site training experience.
On successful completion of the full MSc and achievement of Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine membership for ACCPs there will be progression to a band 8a.
The post holder will be required to adhere to all aspects of the ACP Governance standards and procedures document.
The post holder will deliver an 80% clinical component to their role and 20% related to relevant MSc level modules.
