Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified person to join our team here within the Maxillofacial Prosthetics department based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated/forward thinking individual who strives to deliver the best in care that fits with the Trust ethos.
To deliver a clinical, scientific and advisory services to patients undergoing Reconstructive procedures or Rehabilitation using implants, splints and prostheses.
Provide specialist advice and technical practce on Maxillofacial Prosthetic issues
Participate in stock control and ordering of department consumables
Participate in a twenty four hour emergency on call service
To contribute to departmental and initiate own research and development programmes
Participate in teaching for the units MPT training programme
Manage Trainee and unqualified staff via the MSc diatance learning and STP route
Be responsible for own work load and patient cases in the planning and fitting of prosthesis
Attend sub and specialtyTheatres
Main duties of the job
To include carrying out invasive procedures in the clinic or operating theatre within specified restraints i.e.
*Complex intra-oral or intra-ocular sectional impressions.
*Fitting tissue/prosthetic abutments to osseointegrated implant fixtures.
*Modification of a cranioplasty implant during surgery
Establish patient requirements and liaise across disciplines such as Maxillofacial, Plastics and Burns, Craniofacial, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology and Neurosurgery, i.e.:
*To include specific data/information for orthognathic surgery
*To obtain information for cranial implant construction
*Breast care
*Microtia
Advise other healthcare professionals relevant to scope of own knowledge and practice within the context of cranio-maxilofacial prosthetics and technology, ie:
*Soft and hard tissue remnant removal
*Type of incubation required
*Implant positioning etc.
Fit, and activate as required, splint devices in the clinic or operating theatre, ie:
*. Postburn splint appliances
* Keloid splint
* Cranioplasty etc.
Make clinical and technical decisions on the basis of cross-disciplinary guidance and advice, knowledge of material and component capabilities, with regard to prioritisation according to degree of urgency.
Organise own diary and participate in Maxillofacial Prosthetics Department Outpatient clinic.
Carry out procedures that involve skin/tissue preparations and identify tissue reaction, i.e.: application of tissue conditioners, skin adhesives and (oral) surfactants.
