Job summary

Applications are invited for 2 permanent Consultant Radiologist positions with a specialist interest in Musculoskeletal Radiology within University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust to be based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital or Heartlands Hospital.

We are offering the opportunity to join an established and proactive Consultant Radiologist team in order to respond to the need of our growing service. UHB has a large radiology training scheme so an enthusiasm and aptitude for teaching and training would be an advantage. The candidate would be expected to participate with colleagues in any out-of-hours provision that is required. Applicants must be on or eligible for GMC specialist register for Radiology.

Main duties of the job

All aspects of Subspecialist Musculoskeletal and General radiology including:

*Reporting of diagnostic Musculoskeletal imaging across modalities.

*Image guided procedures relevant to the subspecialty including injections and biopsies

*Ability to manage Orthopaedic, Rheumatology and Trauma MDTs

*General radiology reporting for acute emergency department and inpatient scans.

*Support registrars during on-call.

Leadership & Governance:

a.Ensures service delivery by the department is within the resources available.

b.Helps manage demand and prioritises on the basis of need imaging services as required.

c.Demonstrates excellence in patient quality care.

d.To cover for radiologists as required during time of leave in order to maintain a good service.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

a.The post holder must be willing to join an established collaborative department which involves working closely with radiological colleagues to provide a comprehensive and cohesive service.

b.Contribute to the design and implementation of imaging service by applying the latest evidence and delivering high quality patient care.

c.Have excellent radiology report writing skills and be able to communicate effective with clinical colleagues. To develop and maintain effective networks within the region enabling best practice to be identified and implemented by the Trust.

d.The post holder must have well-developed listening and communication skills and be able to interact effectively with a wide range of clinicians, managers and professionals both within and outside the Trust.

Planning and organising:

a.Be willing to be involved with and implement a comprehensive MSK imaging service including multiple modalities.

b.Contribute to the discussion on the future development of general imaging services within the department.

c.Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement.

d.Effectively plan, communicate and execute changes ensuring engagement and involvement.

e.Support the department in achieving its financial and performance targets.

Administrative support

a.Office space and shared administrative support will be provided.
