Band 6/5 Specialist Macmillan Dietitian/Dietitian (Development)

Job summary

Are you an experienced Band 5 or an established Band 6 dietitian looking to gain experience within cancer care. If so, our 12 month post within the Macmillan Dietetic team at University Hospitals Birmingham (Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals) is the job for you.

We are looking for a highly motivated, flexible and enthusiastic dietitian to join our friendly team. We provide inpatient and outpatient dietetic support to a range of tumour sites, including: Upper GI, Head and Neck, Gynaecology, Haematology, HPB, Lung and Lower GI.

This is a fantastic time to join our team as we continue to develop and expand our service provision. We are currently working on a number of exciting projects including: training for NGT insertions, piloting a Health and Wellbeing group session and outpatient nutritional screening. The team supports and encourages each other in carrying out research/service development projects which has led to submissions to a number of conferences including BAPEN, BAHNO and BDA research symposium.

You would be joining a large, friendly, supportive Dietetic department that covers a range of specialities. We are committed to supporting the ongoing personal and professional development of our staff and offer excellent training and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

This post provides an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a diverse range of treatment modalities including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery and palliative care within inpatient and outpatient settings.

The role will include acute ward cover, outpatient clinics (dietetic and MDT clinics), attending Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and providing educational talks (to patients and staff). In addition to the clinical aspects of the role, the post-holder will also be responsible for training dietetic placement students, supervising band 5 rotational dietitians, taking part in audits and clinical supervision/reflection.

You will be joining a busy team and excellent communication skills and a high standard of organisation and time management are essential for the role.
