Job summary
General Consultant Anaesthetist -- Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospital
Applications are invited for a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in General Anaesthesia Duties based at the Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope sites. A sub-speciality interest in Trauma/orthopaedics, vascular, thoracic, obstetric or colorectal anaesthesia is essential.
Post COVID we have designated Solihull Hospital as an elective surgical centre for major Colo-Rectal, Urology, ENT, Upper GI surgery supported by an Enhanced Perioperative Care Unit (EPOC). Heartlands provides anaesthetic services to the city wide vascular surgery service and a busy inpatient trauma service (mainly neck of femur fractures) and emergency surgery service. Heartlands Treatment Centre is due to open in October 2022.
The post offers a range of sessions which can be tailored to the individual's interests. On call commitments will be on the General on - call rota at Heartlands Hospital (1:15) ,on the Good Hope site (1:12) or on the dedicated obstetric anaesthetic rota in Heartlands (1:12).

Main duties of the job
Details of the post
The core component of this post is to provide anaesthetic cover for a variety of surgical services.
The post holder must understand the significant ongoing changes in the Trust's services and be prepared to take an active part in the change programme.
There are a total of 10 PAs within the job which could be filled by a variety of options, from currently uncovered lists and flexible cover for consultant leave. Please see Section 8 of this job description for further details on conditions of service, including job planned PAs. The successful candidate will be invited to discuss these options with the Clinical Service Lead and Medical Director on appointment.
Any changes to the job plan must be first discussed and agreed with the Divisional management.
