Job summary
Following additional funding into the Pharmacy department an exciting role has been created providing clinical expertise to the Neonatal service at UHB. We are looking for a proactive and dynamic individual with an appropriate level of knowledge and skill to join our Pharmacy team as the Neonatal and Women's pharmacist at UHB Trust.
UHB is one of the largest Trust's in England and has a large Paediatric department on the Heartlands and Good Hope hospital sites treating inpatients and outpatients. In this role you will support the provision of the clinical pharmacy service to Neonates and Women's services. You will work alongside our Specialist Paediatric and Women's pharmacist to provide the clinical service across the sites and support our junior staff with education and training in this challenging and interesting field.
We are a centre of excellence for paediatric neuromuscular services, specialise in paediatric endocrinology and dermatology, and provide paediatric immunology and HIV services for the West Midlands. Our level 3 neonatal unit cares for premature babies as young as 22 weeks and amongst other services are a Hypothermic Cooling Centre for the region. We have an active paediatric research department who work closely with research pharmacy on many studies. Pharmacy is a valued member of the Paediatrics and Neonatal teams and we regularly participate in MDT meetings including ward rounds, neonatal nutrition, safeguarding and discharge planning.
Main duties of the job
Leads and delivers the day to day clinical pharmacy service to the Neonates and Women's services wards through a team approach across Heartlands and Good Hope hospitals.
Acts as the lead for pharmacy service to Neonates.
Alongside counterpart in Paediatrics to support women's services and provide clinical support.
Interprets the needs of the specialty and negotiates a range of pharmacy services to meet them. Represents pharmacy to the specialty, and ensures pharmacy and medicines management are taken account of in the specialty's development plans and day-to-day operation.
Plans and implements developments to the pharmacy service to the specialty.
Also acts as a senior clinical pharmacist in various specialties.
Represents pharmacy in relevant specialist networks, and in joint work with our locality Primary Care Trusts and other bodies at local or regional level.
Line manages Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Trainee Pharmacists and Undergraduate Pharmacists seconded to the specialty for experience
To take full part in clinical/dispensary rota and bank holidays duties.
You will be creating reports and analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance and risk management activities, including review of PGDs and relevant policies.
