Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join the expanding team of Advanced Critical Care Practitioners (ACCPs) in one of the largest critical care departments in the UK which operates across four hospital sites at University Hospitals Birmingham Trust, this vacancy will be primarily based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site although rotation to other sites will be required.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals for these dynamic & diverse roles which support the medical and nursing teams to deliver high quality care to complex critically ill patients in this large tertiary center, providing leadership, expertise, advice and support on the critical care units. The role also involves formulating complex treatment plans, inserting invasive lines, managing airways and independent prescribing for critically ill patients, amongst many other advanced skills required for the post.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and integrity to be able make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of this complex role. As we operate a 24/7 service, you will be required to work a 24/7 rota across all areas of critical care at UHB.

The successful applicant will be registered as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner with the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) and, as a minimum, will have completed a post graduate certificate in Advanced Critical Care Practice or equivalent and will be willing to commence there MSc project/dissertation within the first year of employment The applicant must also have excellent interpersonal and clinical skills, which will be assessed as part of the assessment and interview process.

  • Professional Healthcare Registration with a UK Regulatory Body ( NMC / HCPC / GPC)
  • Post Graduate Qualification in specific speciality or equivalent experience
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice/ Level 7 equivalent portfolio or minimum of 120 CATs and working towards full MSc (must cover all 4 Pillars of advanced clinical practice )-- Portfolio must include evidence of health assessment module at Level 7
  • Non -- Medical Prescribing Course -- where applicable to registration
  • Advanced Life Support Qualification
  • Recognised Teaching & Assessing/ Mentoring Qualification / Course

  • Extensive post registration experience at a senior level (Band 7 or above) in specialty area including significant and relevant senior clinical and leadership experience
