Band 6 – Business Intelligence Developer (Power BI)
This job is now closed
Job summary
The Health Informatics Department is looking for a Business Intelligence Developer to join our dynamic team. Power BI is currently being rolled out within the Trust, meaning you'll be playing a crucial role in the department as we transition from our existing reporting suites and strive to deliver best-in-class BI services. This is a really exciting time to join us, where your ideas will be welcomed and encouraged.
Power BI will be your bread and butter. You'll be using your in-depth knowledge of Power BI, keeping abreast of the latest technological changes. You'll be applying your strong data visualisation skills and creative flare to turn user stories into stunning solutions to address a wide range of clinical, operational, strategic and policy questions. You'll be a subject-matter expert helping to define Power BI standards and ensuring that best practices are widely adopted across the department. And as part of this, you'll mentor staff, sharing your skills and knowledge. You'll be striving for continuous improvement, identifying ways to empower end-users through the business intelligence solutions that you create and ultimately to help deliver on the Trust's vision to build healthier lives for its patients.
Main duties of the job
You must have experience of developing -- end-to-end -- a range of reports and dashboards, from creating data models in Power BI Desktop through to writing complex DAX. You will have experience of working with user stories and translating business requirements into suitable data models. Good knowledge of T-SQL, analytical services and other BI tools would be advantageous, but not essential; as a minimum, you must have a good foundation in writing SQL queries to allow you to work seamlessly with ETL developers and systems experts to create robust data models. The recruitment process will involve an analytical assessment, where you will be expected to demonstrate these technical skills. Applicants who are successful at assessment will be invited to a panel interview.
Since March 2020, most of the department has been working remotely and you will initially have the option for remote or office-based working; however the role is officially based at Yardley Court, B15 1JD. Please get in touch to discuss flexible working.
For an informal chat, please contact Jerry Orme at jerry.orme@uhb.nhs.uk or on 0121 371 7660.
If you think you'd be a good match for the role, please submit an application providing examples of how you meet the criteria laid out in the Person Specification.
