Job summary
Obstetric Consultant Anaesthetist - Birmingham Women's Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital
UHB provides anaesthetists for Birmingham Women's Hospital (BWH) for their obstetric, gynaecology and fertility services.
The core component of this role is to provide anaesthetic cover for obstetrics and gynaecology at BWH.
As well as the core component supporting obstetric anaesthesia there are sessions within the job which can be filled by a variety of options to accommodate individual preferences. A wide variety of sessions are available including, Upper GI, Renal surgery, plastics, trauma and orthopaedics and general anaesthesia.
The successful applicant will join our welcoming team of 13 Consultants in providing anaesthesia on-site. The lead anaesthetic consultant for BWH is Dr Annabelle Whapples, two consultants cover the delivery suite on a daily basis and provide an on call service to the hospital.

Main duties of the job
Details of the post
The core component of this post is to provide anaesthetic cover for a variety of surgical services.
The post holder must understand the significant ongoing changes in the Trust's services and be prepared to take an active part in the change programme.
There are a total of 10 PAs within the job which could be filled by a variety of options, from currently uncovered lists and flexible cover for consultant leave. Please see Section 8 of this job description for further details on conditions of service, including job planned PAs. The successful candidate will be invited to discuss these options with the Clinical Service Lead and Medical Director on appointment.
Any changes to the job plan must be first discussed and agreed with the Divisional management.
