Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of substantive Consultant Renal Surgeon (10 PAs) to join our Renal Surgery Team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB)at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. UHB is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a regional, national, and international population.
The successful candidate will join a team of 7 other consultants at the QEHB site who provide an outpatient and surgical service. The unit is currently performing around 180-200 kidney transplants annually including an active live donor kidney program.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who is skilled in team working and communication who will be expected to work within a multi-disciplinary medical & surgical team to deliver renal transplant, Dialysis Surgery and Parathyroid surgery. The post holder will contribute to the elective and emergency service with a 1:7 on call rota.

Main duties of the job
1. As a consultant the appointee will have full responsibilities for patients under his/her care within the context of a multidisciplinary team structure.
2.The appointee will share clinical responsibility with colleagues in running the clinical work of the department
3.The appointee will play a role in meeting the Department's contracted obligations for the provision of renal services and in ensuring that the overall performance of the Unit meets the quality criteria agreed with the purchasing consortia.
SPECIFIC
*Contribution to delivery and support of the parathyroid service
*Maintenance and development of the cadaveric transplant programme
*Contribution and support to the living donor transplant program
*Delivery and development of vascular access surgery including complex and hybrid procedure
*Support for the peritoneal dialysis service
*Quality improvement and / or research activities in transplantation and vascular access
*Contributing to the postgraduate and undergraduate training commitments of the unit.
