Job summary

We are looking to recruit a hardworking, enthusiastic individual to join our Domestic Services Team located at Beccles Hospital.

We are recruiting for full time 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday 7:00-15:00, with one day of the being week 12:00 19:30

The successful post holder will be part of a team working within our Estates & Facilities Hotel Services department, offering a high quality, flexible and customer focused service. The Hotel Services Team Leader is an important member of the team who helps provide a range of duties across the hospital in a professional manner.

Main duties of the job

You will ensure the day-to-day domestic, catering and portering work is carried out effectively by the teams. Manage and re-organise the work of team members schedules taking into account unforeseen circumstances i.e., sickness absence as well as organising holiday cover.

You will assist and provide a full cleaning service to sterile areas, offices and departments in accordance with work schedules and activity within the area.

You will also be responsible for the administrative duties associated with the Team Leader role, ordering stock from various suppliers, carrying out audits, completing returns and routine compliance checks.

Job description

Complies with instruction received from the Facilities Officer / site Co-Ordinator.

To be involved in staff selection, recruitment and retention.

Involved in first line of discipline and counselling for Hotel Service Staff.

To be responsible for initial stage of staff induction.

To be involved in staff appraisals as and when due.

To be able to use all equipment and cleaning materials as supplied by the Trust to carry out all of the duties required to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.

To instruct and train all team members in the use of cleaning equipment and materials.

Using E Roster system, spreadsheets to plan and implement working rotas to ensure all shifts are covered at each of the premises under your remit, taking into account any cover needed for periods of annual leave or unplanned absences as may occur from time to time.

To re-organize staff and work schedules at short notice to cover on the day sickness and absence. At times stepping in to cover the vacant role.

To carry out routine audits and checks, recording details.

To be responsible for the ordering receiving and distributing of deliveries and supplies in a timely manner. Checking associated documentation.

To assist with the movement of clean and dirty Laundry.

To be responsible for the safe collection and disposal of black bag waste, clinical yellow bag waste and sharps boxes ensuring all relevant paperwork is filled in correctly and forwarded to Facilities to comply with legislation.

To be responsible for keys.

To assist in catering duties, including stock taking, stock rotation and ordering.

To manage the site vending machine, Maintenance and filling.

Removing and replacing of curtains when required and to do so for cleaning purposes.

Such other Portering or domestic duties as may be required from time to time.

To be an authorized signatory for the checking and authorization of staff timesheets and annual leave on both E Roster and ESR.

To keep and maintain accurate staff records in relation to annual leave and sickness.

Checking of equipment and cleaning to include wheelchairs, beds etc and to report any details or faults to the relevant Helpdesk.

Ensuring the proper standards of cleanliness and hygiene are met within the Domestic Department.

To be aware of and able to practice the Trusts policies and procedures pertaining to Fire, Health and Safety, First Aid, Security untoward incidents in general and to the specific working location in particular.

To attend and organise training sessions as required.

To provide training to groups of staff on COSHH and use of equipment and chemicals.

To ensure all staff attend mandatory training.

Reporting and recording all incidents/accidents to Risk Management and the Facilities Officer / site Co-Ordinator.

Observing the correct use and care of equipment for use by all staff.

Feeding back information as and when necessary to the Facilities Officer / site Co-Ordinator.

Frequently works as a member at the Domestic Service Team striving to achieve and maintain the highest level of cleanliness, utilizing various machines and equipment (including scrubbing machine).

To report to the Service Manager/ Estates Department any faults and defects that come to your attention as requested by Health and Safety.

Report sightings of pests.

To ensure staff members arrive promptly at the commencement of their appropriate shifts.

To understand the importance of client confidentiality.

To ensure the cleaning of sanitary and service areas and offices, in accordance with schedules and requirements with occasional exposure to body fluids and unpleasant odours.

To propose changes to cleaning methods and practices to ensure efficient, cost effective work practices.

To order cleaning materials and light equipment as required whilst maintaining stock control.

Uses and cares for cleaning tools, equipment and materials as specified.

To operate carpet-cleaning machinery and floor cleaning machinery as required.

Undertakes any risk assessments duties as required.

To provide information, guidance and ancillary services as required to staff and patients / visitors to the site.
