IT Specialist - Apprentice

Annexe 21 of NHS T's and C's apply to this role so the salary over the course of the apprenticeship is as follows:

year 1 £23861 (60% of band 5)

year 2 £25849 (65% of band 5)

year 3 £27838 (70% of band 5)

year 4 £29826 (75% of band 5)

Main duties of the job

The IT Specialist provides support for one or more business-critical Bromley Healthcare IT systems.

You will be responsible for investigating and resolving faults and requests relating to those systems on a daily basis and being able to communicate that information efficiently and effectively.

You will also be responsible for enhancing your systems to meet the evolving needs of Bromley Healthcare.

Your academic qualification will need tomeetthose required by the University of Greenwich for their BSc degree in Digital and Technology Solutions.

You will be required to undertake one day a week formal study at the University of Greenwich Medway Campus at Chatham Maritime, Kent. Bromley Healthcare will support your application for the degree at the University of Greenwich. The offer of employment with Bromley Healthcare will be subject to you also meeting the requirements of the University (this is to applied for once an offer has been made so no need to do anything at this stage).

Job responsibilities

  1. IT Specialist System Expert
  • Responsible for the proper and safe maintenance and use of IT specialist system(s).
  • Keep abreast of best practice and advances in specialist system(s).
  • Follow and contribute to technical documentation for IT team members and end users to provide accessible and comprehensive information in respect of use and specialist system.

  1. IT Support
  • Provide support for specialised systems including analysing, investigating and resolving IT queries and issues/problems to support achievement of Service Level Agreement (SLA) response and fix targets.
  • Manage installation, repair and maintenance tasks of IT specialist system(s) escalating issues as and when appropriate.
  • Coach IT Service Desk to ensure a shift left of tasks where possible to allow focus on more complex support, design and improvement delivery for your role.
  • Be aware of the Bromley Healthcares responsibilities for the security, accuracy and relevance of all personal data held on specialist systems and ensure that all processes relating to the system comply with this.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current security threats and common exploits, especially within the Healthcare sector and ensure that specialist systems cyber protections are robust and kept up to date.
  • Arrange with external contractors the repair and replacement of all hardware that is still covered under warranty or have additional service contracts covering the repair of the hardware.
  • Support transportation, installation and lifting of various IT equipment from lighter objects, monitors, keyboards and mice to the much heavier objects such as PCs, printers, servers, server racking and UPSs on a frequent basis.
  • Take responsibility for the appropriate storage and security of all IT equipment held in storage pending distribution or disposal.
  • Manage installation & updating of IT software, conducting testing as necessary and recording details of any issues or failures, to either modify the configuration/images to work with the software or to modify the software itself to get the required results.
  • Accurately communicate complex technical and non-technical information to ensure clarity for stakeholders.
  • Ensure consideration for the impact of digital system change on service users. In particular consideration of the impact of change on clinical safety and patient services.
  • Post-holder will be largely responsible for managing their own workload

  • Support the planning, development, review, update, upgrade and introduction of major new IT specialist systems in BHC including user requirements.

  • As you will be working to agreed objectives and to SLAs you will therefore need to manage your own time and workload efficiently and effectively to reach those agreed objectives and SLAs.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties as detailed by Line Manager or any other Managers which may arise from time-to-time.
