Job summary

The job has both Audiology admin and clinical duties to support the Audiologist and the Audiology Physician. The role will involve supporting the clinics, sending out letters and completing some clinical assessment of children.

Main duties of the job

Clinical:

  • Prepare the room for the clinic sessions, switch on and check machinery, turn off air conditioning and close windows.
  • Meet clients in the waiting area and escort them to the audiology room and introduce them to the doctor.
  • Carry out Pure tone audio tests, McCormick toy tests, and Free-field audiometry tests, as required after successful training.
  • Assist the doctor to effectively carry out Visual Re-enforcement Audiometry, Transient Evoked Oto Acoustic emission Tests and McCormick toy tests
  • Facilitate the hearing test by encouraging the patients and supervise siblings as necessary.
  • Stimulate the patients through play to encourage speech to assist the Doctors analysis.
  • Ensure that the Otoscope and other equipment including all toys are clean
  • The post holder is responsible to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk and follow safeguarding processes.

Ensure the hospital notes are returned to ENT Surgeons secretary for typing.

Upload letters into Emis for each client once they have been sent via email from the ENT Surgeons secretary.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE standard (or equivalent) to include Maths and English

Desirable

  • Hearing Care Assistant BTEC

Specific Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work within agreed timeframes
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of Audiology and/or other allied health professionals' roles such as speech and language therapy
  • Thorough understanding of the concept and practical implications of clinical governance

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the function, calibration and preventative maintenance of audiological electrophysiological equipment, including basic fault-finding

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in an administrative/clerical capacity.

Desirable

  • Previous NHS background.
  • Patient facing experience in particular working with children
