Job summary

Livewell Southwests Specialist Tier 3 Weight Management Service are seeking an experienced and motivated General Practitioner with Extended Role (GPwER) to join our multidisciplinary team.

This is a part-time role for four hours per week to be worked flexibly.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to deliver specialist, holistic care to adults living with complex obesity and related long-term conditions. You will play a key part in our integrated model, working closely with colleagues across dietetics, psychology, nursing, health improvement, and local primary care networks across Plymouth and Devon.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide specialist medical assessments for patients.

Lead on the safe initiation, monitoring, and review of weight-management pharmacotherapies, including GLP1 therapies where clinically appropriate.

Participate in regular multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.

Contribute to the creation of individualised care plans, supporting behaviour change and clinical risk management.

Support patients navigating pre and postoperative pathways for Tier 4 bariatric surgery in line with national guidance.

Offer clinical expertise to colleagues across Livewell Southwest and local primary care.

Contribute to service development, audit, quality improvement, and pathway design.

Ensure highquality clinical documentation and uphold governance, safeguarding, and patientcentred care standards.

Essential

  • Eligibility for full registration with GMC with a licence to practice.
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years in general practice and, or, adult medicine training.

Desirable

  • Membership of, or affiliation to, the Royal College of GPs or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with patients with Eating Disorders.
  • Experience of acute assessment of Eating Disorders in hospital setting.

  • Excellent clinical skills in history taking and physical assessment of patients.
  • Writing comprehensive, clear, medical notes.
  • Ability to manage crises and act independently.
  • Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.
