We are excited to offer an opportunity for an outstanding Specialty Doctor to join the team of senior medics in our Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).
This is a new, well supported 12-month post. It would suit a doctor seeking to broaden experience in CAMHS prior to applying for specialty training or a trainee wishing to take time out of training (GMC approval is required in the latter case). CAMHS has a strong tradition in teaching & training, at post & undergraduate levels.
You will be forward thinking, able to manage a caseload expertly ensuring regular assessment/reviews alongside primary care colleagues; encouraged to work closely with Consultant/Operational staff to ensure smooth functioning of service & to assure high standard/quality of care for patients; have opportunities to develop psychotherapeutic skills & experience in training in family interventions & CBT.

Main duties of the job
CAMHS promote the mental health & psychological wellbeing of children & young people. They provide high quality, MDT to all children & young people with mental problems & disorders, to ensure effective assessment, treatment & support, for them & their families.
The Neurodevelopmental & Learning Disabilities Pathway provides consultation, assessment & interventions to all special schools in Plymouth. This includes the moderate learning difficulties schools. Evidence based practice using Positive Behaviour Support.
The work of the post holder will be to support the MDT by providing psychiatric assessments & treatments but also case consultation under supervision to other members of the team. This is a community based post with a central base at Mount Gould. The way the team is organised currently referrals are accepted according to specified referral criteria & after triage assessment by team members.
It is expected that there will be 1 new assessment per week & between 10-20 contacts per week depending on complexity. Follow up may include family meetings, network meetings & child protection meetings.
There will be a total caseload of between 80-100 cases to manage comprising those with various mental health disorders. Complex cases will be jointly held with case manager & all cases managed under clinical supervision of Consultant.
There is a newly established crisis team for CAMHS & diagnostic clinic, with medication management for outpatients.
