Consultant Psychiatrist Specialist Outreach Recovery Team (SORT)

We are excited to welcome applications for the post of Consultant Psychiatrist in our Specialist Outreach Recovery Team (SORT).

The SORT Team is intended for patients with severe and enduring mental illness. These patients are often difficult to engage and so you as consultant in the service will take a lead role in providing motivation, clinical leadership and support to the Inpatient and Community MDT. You will also use these expert skills to facilitate successful partnership working with external agencies.

As an experienced clinician, you will be able to offer comprehensive psychiatric assessments with ease, ensuring that only the best support is in place for patients under your care. As a senior doctor you will be at the forefront of decision making for service provision and development, supporting the Specialty Grade Doctor within the team. You will have the skills and knowledge to supervise the foundation, GP and psychiatry trainees assigned to the department (you will receive protected time to do this) and you will also have the drive to take part in psychiatric teaching and in academic meetings.

Main duties of the job

You will be enthusiastic, professional and committed to providing the very best care for patients and access to Social Inclusion and Vocational Services. There are links with three supported accommodation projects providing housing for local accommodation provision for people with severe and enduring mental health needs. The aim is to provide a whole systems approach to recovery for people who have complex disorders and are often well known to mental health in-patient and community services. Recovery services provide intensive support and holistic individualised care.

As an experienced consultant, you will also possess the skills and knowledge to supervise the trainee assigned to the department (you will receive protected time to do this). You will also have the opportunity to take part in psychiatric teaching and also in other academic meetings. You will be at the forefront of decisions regarding service provision, development and delivery and you will be at the heart of decision making with regards to risk and coordination of pathways for your patients.

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of Mental Health legislation
  • Participation in Continual Professional Development
  • MDT working
  • Ability to offer expert psychiatric opinion on full range of emergency and routine clinical situations

Desirable

  • Experience in community outreach psychiatry, experience in working in a Community/Rehabilitation/In patient Mental Health Team and CPA
  • Experience in Rehabilitation Adult Psychiatry is desirable

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS, Eligibility for full registration with GMC with a licence to practice.
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry at the time of taking up the Post (Specialist Registrars applying in advance must be within six months of their CCT at the point of being interviewed).
  • Eligibility for Section 12 and Approved Clinician Approval.
  • Extensive experience in Community /Adult Psychiatry essential

Desirable

  • RCPsych endorsement in Rehabilitation or Addiction Psychiatry
  • Higher academic Qualification (MSc, PhD or other relevant higher qualifications).
  • Specialist areas e.g. Personality disorder, Eating disorders and Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
  • Qualification in Teaching & Learning.
