Job summary
This is a new post and will support the consultant to provide the
psychology service within the complex needs and substance use service. The Livewell service consists of a multi-disciplinary team offering a range of services, such as Opiate Substitute Treatment (OST)
prescribing, case work for clients with co-occurring mental health and
substance use problems, hostel outreach work, alcohol detox and MHTR services.The aim of the Complex Needs Team is to promote and inspire recovery
through offering specialist assessments, evidence-based interventions,
treatment and care co-ordination to clients open to Harbour Drug & Alcohol
Services who have complex mental health and substance misuse issues and which
require an integrated treatment approach.The position is offered at Band 8a, but we also welcome
applications from newly-qualified and final-year trainee psychologists and can
appoint at Band 7, with scope for progression to a Band 8a, over a period of 12
18 months. For appointees to this
development post at Band 7, key competencies to be met are:1 To have acquired advanced theoretical and practical
knowledge by supplementing the doctoral degree with short specialist courses in
clinical supervision and substance use.2 To be competent in clinical supervision and able to
supervise DClinPsych trainees.If competency is not reached, the potholder would remain at
Band 7.
Main duties of the job
As well as carrying an appropriate complex, clinical case load, the post holder will support development of the psychology service, including group interventions, staff support, research, and multi-agency links.
We are keen to embed trauma-informed care
principles into our substance use services and this post will help drive this
forward by contributing to the development of this new psychology service in
line with Good Practice guidance.
Substance misuse services nationally are in a process of expansion with additional funding opportunities over the next 5 years, to improve the effectiveness of treatment and to help more people recover from dependence.
To take responsibility for assessment and
treatment of own specialist caseload of clients with problem substance use,
complex trauma, psychosis, and other significant mental health problems as well
as offending histories.
To
use their expertise to communicate psychological formulations and
treatment plans to carers and professional colleagues, in a way that
effectively contains the anxiety present in the system and around the
client.
