Job summary

The School Nursing Service as part of the integrated 0-19 Public Health Nursing Service, provides health information, advice, support and interventions based on identified needs of a child, their family and their communities. Promotion of health, prevention of ill health and protection of children are key priorities for the School Nursing Service

The advanced family health worker will work within the School Nursing Service providing hearing screening, National Child Measurement Programme and advice and support for children and families either one to one or in facilitated groups in the community.

Main duties of the job

to undertake School Entry Screening programmes,

to provide healthy lifestyle interventions for children and their families

to support the School Nursing Service delivering packages of care to families on an individual basis and in groups

to facilitate discussions with groups of parents about overcoming common health issues in children

to facilitate health promotion groups for parents

Ideally you will have experience of working with children. Good IT skills are essential together with a commitment to developing innovative ways of delivering services. You will receive training and work through competencies and have further opportunities to develop professionally.

You will have opportunities to work with children and parents face to face and over Microsoft Teams. You will be using software packages to support your screening programmes with small children in schools.

  • OR
  • Level 5 qualification in health and social care plus relevant clinical experience
  • Level 2 qualification in Maths and English such as GCSE's and English such as GCSE's or functional skills.

Desirable

  • Additional training as required for service delivery
  • Additional qualifications in child and family related areas, for example, play skills, behaviour management, Portage, budgeting, nutrition.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children and families for 2 years.
  • Able to prioritise own work.
  • Has experience of running group activities in a variety of settings
  • Up to date working knowledge of a range of areas related to normal child development, for example, nutrition.
  • Knowledge and /or experience of developmental/language delay.
  • Experience working with other services/agencies.

  • Will run NCMP sessions
  • Is able to plan, design, run and evaluate group activities as identified by the SCPHN team.
