Job summary
22.5 hours per week. An opportunity has arisen to join the reception team at our busy Plymouth Community Dental Service. This is a part time fixed term post mainly based at the Dental Access Centre, Greenbank, Plymouth, we also have a dental clinic at Scott Business park which you may be required to work at.
Main duties of the job
You will be providing a full range of reception duties, dealing with cash/card payments, telephone triaging and admin support to the dental team, including using the SOEL HEALTH dental software system and Microsoft Office applications.
You will be the first point of contact for patients visiting our busy service, and therefore must possess good inter-personnel skills, we are a very busy service and the demands on our service are very high.
You will need to be able to respond appropriately to telephone queries from patients and a wide range of health and social care professionals. You will need to be able to manage your own workload in a busy environment. You may sometimes be required to cover at another dental clinic, so will need to be flexible.

The Dental Receptionist is the first point of contact for the patients of the service and therefore the post holder will need to promote a professional image. The post holder will have access to supervisory staff whilst directly dealing with queries from patients who are frequently in distress and suffering pain and discomfort. It is important that the Dental Receptionist maintains a strong patient focus and pro-active approach to dealing with problems.
2. Job Purpose:
The post holder will be the first point of contact for patients, carers and members of the public.
To receive calls at the Plymouth Community Dental Services Ltd for the general public regarding access to emergency dental treatment and deal with queries the general public regarding access to dental treatment.
To liaise with NHS Direct, Devon Doctors and GDP Clinics and other health professionals

Ordering hospital notes following the correct protocols

Entering and updating all relevant patients details onto SOEL Health
Triaging e.g. ascertaining the extent of pain and priority using the flow chart supplied, taking down and logging what patients report to go to triage team
Check patient exemptions

Dealing with difficult patients/special need patients

Collection/disseminating of post/referrals to ensure correspondence reaches relevant person or department
5. Information Technology
Inputs information onto the department dental software system which records patients notes, waiting lists and databases and the appointment system.
Specialist knowledge of Soel Health dental software gained through training and experience to include all of the following:

Patient correspondence
Notes general/confidential
Waiting lists
Knowledge of Clinician specialties

Files and retrieves any patient related information not recorded on computer.
