Musculoskeletal Podiatrist (with Special Interest in Wound Care)

Job summary

37.5 hours per week. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Podiatrist with 3 years experience to utilise & develop a wide range of podiatric knowledge and skills. The post holder will principally specialise in managing adults presenting with complex musculoskeletal conditions affecting the foot and ankle as well as extensive practice across all aspects of managing the diabetic foot (amongst other conditions) with a focus on supporting the service's offloading approaches. You can expect to:

work with an extensively stocked workshop allowing the modification of off the shelf & custom foot orthoses, including access to an external lab for custom foot orthoses. Provide and audit ESWT clinics for a variety of MSK conditions. Directly request and audit imaging/guided injections

work with experienced Podiatrists with access to clinical support from senior colleagues. Work alongside and participate in the development of HCAs, podiatry assistants, apprentice podiatrists, and new graduates on our preceptorship scheme

have a comprehensive induction & development plan, practice supervision & line-management supervision. Have regular team meetings, CPD support within service, & the opportunity to undertake independent prescribing qualifications

work in modern environments with IT and administration support, undertake line-management of staff as required by the service, work across a range of settings including primary, community, secondary care & the domiciliary setting

Main duties of the job

This role principally requires the post holder to provide Podiatric care for patients with MSK conditions for 60% of their time. For 40% of their time the post holder will provide Podiatric care for patients with diabetes and patients from across the general caseload; working across community clinics and hospitals, domiciliary, and secondary care on rotation.

Post holders will provide patients with expert assessment, monitoring, diagnoses and clinical interventions pertaining to musculoskeletal conditions, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, neuropathy and all associated Podiatric presentations. Patients will vary from those requiring routine monitoring through to those with significant foot pathology including acute and chronic wounds. As such, staff in this role will also work in close liaison with primary care, and Podiatric and other colleagues in the secondary care setting.

There is a requirement to undertake the line-management of clinical and non-clinical staff as required by the service in this role.

All clinical care settings are supported by comprehensive IT access with the use of SystmOne as the clinical records and booking system, access to some GP records, and full access to imaging reports, blood tests and the like. Staff are provided with a laptop and mobile telephone for working remotely within the domiciliary setting.

All Livewell Southwest staff are expected to able and willing to work across a 7 day service.
