Job summary

The Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Department based at the Glenbourne Unit is looking to recruit a ECT Clinical Team Leader for 12 hours per week.

We are seeking a Clinical Team Leader to join our established team in the continued delivery of excellent care provided to users of our service and their families. You will be someone with a passion for and experience of working within Mental Health settings and have a passion for supporting those within crisis and recovery from mental illness. The post holder must show strong leadership qualities, have a desire to push the department forward, working to best and evidence based practice whilst upholding the ECTAS standards and requirements for an accredited unit.

The team deliver compassionate skilled care to very vulnerable patients as both inpatient and outpatients. This role will also involve supporting carers using Triangle of care principles.

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in line management to junior staff.
  • To provide clinical supervision
  • To provide ongoing enhancement of training / induction programmes for all staff.
  • Implement and support clinical development plans for nursing staff within your department.
  • Monitor sickness / absence and review information with Senior Nurse Manager.
  • Liaise with Senior Nurse Manager in the identification of staffing requirements and agree appropriate actioning.
  • Ensure the smooth implementation of all organisation / operational issues related to this professional service.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and selection of staff.
  • To provide educational support to learners, induction programmes and mentorship
    • Post holder is responsible for ensuring that stock ordering and equipment is inline with budget requirements
    • Awareness of budgetary constraints in the planning and delivery of care
    • Post holder is responsible for ensuring that ECT equipment is maintained and in good order
    • Responsible for ensuring that annual leave is balanced, and the department is covered with appropriate and efficient clinicians
    • Is the post holder responsible for stock control and are they an authorised signatory?

To provide professional advice, support, direction and supervision to nursing staff, as well as other staff new to the working area.

You will maintain professional standards and promote research and development within the department.

Offer full knowledge and understanding of informed consent and its application to patients circumstances and needs.

Knowledge of legislation in relation to ECT, as well as the wider context.

Ensure effective communication between all disciplines involved in ECT delivery and good customer and public relations within the hospital, the organisation and the community.

Full knowledge of contraindications, indications and adverse effects of ECT and able to communicate this information effectively.

Assess / evaluate immediate and longer term response to ECT.

Participate in the Unit wide response team which responds to any untoward incident and undertake associated training to ensure safety in the wards.

To carry out tasks efficiently and effectively

To undertake only those tasks for which she / he has had instruction and is competent to fulfil.

To provide guidance and support to junior staff or students

To engage with audits, quality improvement projects and service changes as directed by the modern matron.
