Job summary

37.5 hours per week.

We are seeking a highly motivated electrically biased professional individual, to work full time over 5-days, to assist a multi-skilled team of tradesmen in carrying out the maintenance and working on buildings, building services, plant and equipment within a range of healthcare buildings.

Working across the Plymouth area, you will demonstrate a good knowledge of working in building services, have experience of working with electrical and mechanical tools, possess a flexible approach to work and will have completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship.

You will also be required to work on your own after having gained experience of the sites.

Good communication skills and a willingness to undertake training are required. You must be numerate and literate, with good written skills.

You must be able to work overtime at short notice, if required, and have the ability to travel across Plymouth. This role involves participating in an on call rota.

Main duties of the job

To undertake maintenance and installation work for electrical services and equipment. The post holder will be required to carry out routine maintenance and repair of a range of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment within Livewell Southwest hospitals, health centres, clinics and administration buildings.

Including electrical distribution systems, lighting, safety systems, heating systems, plumbing, building management systems, motors, engineering plant, equipment and processes.

To serve as part of the maintenance team to deliver high quality care through effective and efficient operation and maintenance of all healthcare building services.

To comply with all relevant Health, Safety and Statutory legislation and seek to apply best working practice at all times.

Undertake tasks appropriate to the Electrician role as delegated by line management or helpdesk.

The post holder will be expected to undertake routine maintenance and repair of a range of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment along with installation and upgrade and refurbishment of systems and services associated with a variety of systems and equipment including but not limited to:

Electrical distribution systems

Lighting and emergency lighting systems

Fire alarms

Nurse call

SAS/panic alarm systems

Access control

BMS systems

Generators

Pumps and motors

Hospital beds, plinths, couches, etc

Macerators

Other engineering plant, equipment and processes.

Advise the Line Manager of any problems or hazards likely to be encountered including existing installations that appear substandard or fail to meet current regulations as it becomes apparent. Isolate or make safe any installation that presents a danger to staff, visitors or patients to ensure highest levels of safety at all times.

Undertake appropriate fault finding, investigation and testing as appropriate to the work.

Ascertain and obtain materials, equipment and components that in your judgment represent value for money for the maintenance task. Keep accurate records of stock levels for stores. Undertake the work in a safe and workmanlike manner, within reasonable timescales. Post holder will only undertake financial transactions on behalf of the organisation with prior authorisation from an appointed manager or supervisor.

The position is likely to necessitate training either to keep up to date with new regulations, or to implement safe systems of work.

Liaise with contractors where they have been employed to work in conjunction with the work detailed to ensure efficient and effective operations.
