Job summary

37.5 hours per week. An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Hotel Services Team Leader, within our ward based Hotel Services team, to lead and work as part of a team of staff who provide a catering and clinical cleaning service.

Applications are welcomed from enthusiastic individuals with a flexible approach as this position will involve covering various shifts from 7am to 7pm including weekends and bank holidays.

You will be managing a team of ward based Hotel Services staff. This post is based at Mount Gould Hospital. Please contact the Hotel Services team for exact location details.

As the first point of contact it is essential you possess exemplary interpersonal skills which will be utilised in dealing with a wide variety of people and situations. You must be able to organise workloads and rosters to ensure service needs are met.

You will require a good level of communication and be able to evidence supervisory skills. Good people skills and the ability to work as a member of a team are essential.

Main duties of the job

Scope & Range

The post holder will liaise with support services / contractors.

The post holder will manage a Hotel Services ward based team.

The main elements of the role are ensuring the management and delivery of cleaning, catering and minor maintenance, together with other specified tasks to meet patient needs, as determined with the Hotel Services Manager / Ward Manager with the aim of delivering a high quality service for patients, the public and staff. In addition to providing the management of a ward based team, you will be expected to work as part of the ward team providing a cleaning and catering service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Cleaning

To organise, participate and manage the Hotel Services team in the cleaning of all fixtures and fittings on the ward.

To attend daily meeting / or liaise with Nurse in Charge to identify areas of particular concern e.g. isolation, specialist dietary needs, discharges, admissions and relay information to Hotel Services staff.

To arrange and ensure specialist cleaning equipment / protocols and appropriate staffing is available when required e.g. for outbreaks, isolation areas.

To ensure and support staff in keeping ward area tidy, clean and clutter free.

To ensure the cleaning of equipment (kitchen or ward) is carried out as per National Cleaning Standards / Hygiene Code / organisational and manufacturers guidance. To report anomalies / poor practice to Hotel Services Manager or Deputy and follow organisational policy.

To ensure there is a cleaning schedule displayed for the ward and associated areas and that it is adhered to.

To participate in weekly ward cleanliness checks with designated ward infection control representative and assist in the formulation of action plans if required.

To monitor and sign off weekly cleaning schedules (kitchen and ward) to confirm that work has been completed to a satisfactory standard.

To have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of national and organisational infection control policies and procedures and direct and support staff in adhering to these.

To attend Infection Prevention and Control meetings.

To order all domestic cleaning stock via e-Proc or other system ensuring their safe and economic use and correct storage. To ensure that stock is maintained at appropriate levels, goods are stock rotated and controlled through a monitoring system.

Ensure all articles of clothing follow through on discharge or transfer of patients.

Catering

To direct and assist in the preparation of food and beverages in line with Food Safety Legislation, locally and nationally.

Ensure the ward is able to offer patients a 24 hour snack service.

To direct and assist Hotel Services staff in serving patient meals and work in conjunction with clinical staff to ensure dietary requirements are met.

Ensure that where patients are on food / fluid monitoring, nursing staff are informed of food / fluids taken or not.

To direct and supervise Hotel Services staff with preparation of correct

consistencies of diet / fluids for patients with compromised swallow, under the direction of Speech and Language Therapist and trained nurses.

To be point of contact for patients / carers to ensure dietary needs are met and be responsive to concerns in conjunction with the MDT.

In conjunction with clinical staff support patients in making their daily menu choice and work with ward staff to ensure protected mealtimes are adhered to.

To be responsible for the ordering of food and beverages on a daily or weekly basis and be able to respond to changes in patient needs e.g. extra meal requirements, change in patient dietary requirements and ensuring stocks of both domestic / catering stores are ordered accordingly via e-Proc or other system.

To ensure that equipment used in kitchen environment and catering equipment in ward area is clean, used appropriately and fit for purpose.

To be responsible for the storage and checking of kitchen and hotel services supplies, when delivered e.g. linen, foods, cleaning materials.

To ensure food and beverages are stored as per locally and nationally agreed standards e.g. refrigerated foods / beverages.

Be responsible for ensuring the ward kitchen area is clean, tidy and clutter free and direct Hotel Services and clinical staff to do the same.

To inform clinical staff if patients have not taken full meals or beverages and support Hotel Services staff to do the same.

Environmental

To respect patient’s privacy, dignity and confidentiality when carrying out duties and support other staff to do the same.

To assist and support Hotel Services and clinical staff in maintaining the safety / security of patients property / belongings.

Take responsibility for the monitoring, reporting and co-ordination and communication of maintenance issues with regards to hotel services equipment / facilities.

To ensure the disposal of clinical, domestic and confidential waste is carried out as per local and nationally agreed policy e.g. external waste containers are secured.

To ensure and support the safe storage of hotel services equipment and resources.
