Job summary

To work as a team leader and extended scope practitioner leading a highly motivated team, working independently in primary, secondary and community settings providing a high standard of quality clinical care. Assist Operational Lead with special projects, improving service delivery, as integral part of management team.

Main duties of the job

  • Appraisal of staff
  • Mentoring of new staff
  • Keep departmental policies, protocols and guidelines in line with evidence based practice
  • Chair specialist team meetings
  • Be proactive in Trust/departmental audit/research projects/clinical trials
  • Participate and contribute to Podiatry Management Team meetings
  • Be aware of KPI and 18 Week RTT Requirements

To assess, diagnose, develop and implement individualised podiatric care programmes for patients with a wide variety of clinical needs at specialist (diabetes/wound care/educational) level, including:

  • Patients with gait problems due to foot deformity and or joint malfunction
  • Patients requiring local anesthetic including local infiltration and ankle blocks
  • Wound management/Tissue Viability
  • Ulcers and infected wounds
  • Vascular problems e.g. peripheral vascular disease
  • Acute infections
  • Chronic disease e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, chronic neuropathy, high-risk diabetic
  • Terminally ill patients requiring a sympathetic approach

Care will be provided in a range of primary and secondary care settings including:

  • Community Clinics
  • Health Centres
  • Hospital Clinics (Community Hospitals and Acute Hospitals)
  • GP Surgeries
  • Patient Homes
  • Residential Homes for the Elderly
  • Specialist Clinics

The post holder will also be expected to plan and manage their own caseload, which will include providing specialist care for patients with diabetes, wound care and educational planning.
