Job summary

Nottingham CityCare’s Public Health 0-19 Children’s Nursing Service is excited to be launching a brand-new service offer; Targeted Healthy Lifestyles Service, promoting healthier lifestyles through early intervention and prevention strategies. We have secured funding for a 2 year pilot to deliver an enhanced targeted Healthier Lifestyles offer to children aged 0-4 years and their families within our 4 SSBC ward areas; Bulwell, Aspley/Strelley, Hyson Green/Arboretum and St Ann’s/Sneinton.

We are looking for health professionals and local community people who would enjoy engaging and working with our families. We encourage a think family approach by working together to enjoy healthier lifestyles through buying healthier foods on a budget, cooking and eating healthily, increasing physical activity, better sleep and less screen time amongst other changes.

As part of the new team, you will help to deliver evidence based early intervention and prevention packages of care to families and children which will incorporate Healthy Nutrition, Physical Exercise and Healthier Lifestyle behaviour change.

The new service will be dedicated to reducing health inequalities by improving the health and wellbeing of children and their families, promoting behaviour change with buy in from the families we offer this service to.

These roles are Fixed Term until 31.03.24

Main duties of the job

We have exciting opportunities available for you to be part of a team for this new service and we welcome your creative and innovative ideas as part of the implementation and launch of this new service.

Public Health Nutrition Lead B5 AfC 30 hours

Community Public Health Support Workers B3 AfC 30 hours

Public Health Administrator for the team B2 AfC. 22.5 hours

· You will have an interest in the current developments in Public Health especially the obesity prevention agenda.

· You will need good communication skills; (both written and verbal), alongside IT and organizational/prioritizing skills. See JD and PS for required levels, dependent on the role you are applying for.

· You will love team working but be able to work independently also.

. You will have a keen interest and passion for embedding behaviour changes that encourage healthier lifestyles, leading to improved health outcomes for our families.

Job responsibilities

  • To support the development, co-ordination, and implementation of the Targeted Healthy Lifestyle Service in line with the local regional and country wide agendas around obesity prevention; designed to promote healthier lifestyles for Nottingham City’s Children, aged 0-4 years and their families at high risk of developing obesity leading to poor health outcomes.
  • To ensure the delivery of high quality and evidence based Public Health programmes and interventions in line with local and national guidance, best practice and the efficient use of resources.
  • To plan and organise, co-ordination and implementation of training packages/programmes; designed specifically for professionals.
  • To up-skill professionals with motivational and behaviour change training techniques to overcome the barriers for the prevention of behaviour change in families with complex needs requiring sensitive and skilled support to facilitate development of a healthier lifestyle.
  • To teach and inform the public and health professionals about diet and nutrition. To aim to promote good health and prevent disease in individuals and communities. To provide information about food and healthy eating via clinical supervision and support for the Healthy Lifestyles Team (Service).
  • Provide expert Public Health knowledge and information to enhance the well-being and development of Children aged 0-4 years and their families at high risk of developing obesity.
  • To provide Public Health information and support structures for partnership project work with local agencies such as the Local Authority, our commissioners, SSBC, community and voluntary groups.
  • To facilitate Public Health group work and community based health needs assessments ensuring the robust auditing, monitoring and evaluation of these initiatives, enabling population health management.

To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team sometimes without direct supervision, reporting back to the Children’s Public Health 0-19 Nursing Service caseload holder.

The post holder will:

  • Work in partnership with the Healthy Lifestyles manager to enable the launch, implementation and delivery of the new Healthy Lifestyles service.
  • Work in partnership with the Healthy Lifestyle Manager to support recruitment and orientation of staff into the new service.
  • Requirement to work in a cost effective manner, maintain stock security and control.
  • Deliver specialist health promotion within own clinical expertise and capacity to children aged 0 -4 years old and their families in a variety of community and virtual settings.
  • Organise own workload and complete delegated work effectively without supervision.
  • Ensure excellent communication for joined up working with partner agencies to ensure our Public Health promotion matches current local, regional, and country wide Public Health agendas.
  • Lead on the development of robust auditing and evaluation of pathways to enable the provision of a high quality, evidence based Healthy Lifestyle service offer.
