Job summary
Nottingham CityCares Public Health 0-19 Childrens Nursing Service host the Healthy Lifestyle Team: promoting healthier lifestyles through early intervention and prevention strategies.
We have been working with families since September 2022 and currently have funding until March 2026 to deliver an enhanced targeted Healthy Lifestyle offer to children aged 0-5 years, and their families, who live in Nottingham City.
We are looking for a Nurse who is passionate about promoting health and who would enjoy engaging and working with our families. We encourage a think family approach by working together to enjoy healthier lifestyles through buying healthier foods on a budget, cooking and eating healthily, increasing physical activity, better sleep and less screen time amongst other changes.
As part of the team, you will help to deliver evidence based early intervention and prevention packages of care to families and children which will incorporate the above Healthy Nutrition, Physical Exercise and Healthier Lifestyle behaviour change.
The service is dedicated to reducing health inequalities by improving the health and wellbeing of children and their families, promoting behaviour change with buy in from the families we offer this service to.

The hours of work will be 4 days per week. The Service hours are Monday Friday 8.30am 5pm excluding weekends and bank holidays.
Main duties of the job
The Nurse is integral to the success of the team, leading the triage of referrals to the team, completing initial assessments of family lifestyles using our assessment tools and delivering the intervention to families.
You will hold a small caseload of families who may have more complex medical issues and/or safeguarding concerns. You will manage the allocation of families to the skill mix team and offer supervision to the team supporting them with their families.
You will be working with parents and carers of children under 5 years old who have been identified as gaining weight rapidly or as having a BMI that places then at risk of developing complications of excessive weight in later life.You work in partnership with families to identify goals that they feel they can work towards to make sustainable changes that will positively impact on their healthy lifestyle choices. These changes can often be small but need to feel manageable and achievable by the family.
The families we work with are from very diverse religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds all of which impact on their lifestyle choices. The team continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of the lived experience of our families and how these impact on the food they eat, how it is cooked and how we can encourage and support healthier options.
This role has supported career development to enrolment on the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Course, Health Visiting.
