Job summary

Would you like an opportunity to advance your dietetic career as a clinical lead working across both paediatrics and adults service working in the community?

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic dietitian to join our friendly team of innovative community paediatric and adult dietitians.

The clinical element of this role will involve work clinically in the community paediatric dietetic service offering expert advice and support for children with food allergy, faltering growth, feeding difficulties and obesity including children with autistic spectrum disorder. It will involve seeing children and their families in community clinics and offering video, telephone and email support to patients, GPs and other community health professionals, including collaboration with the public health nutritionist in the 0-19 Childrens community nursing team.

This permanent Band 7 post plays an integral role within the overall Community Dietetic teams both children and adults, supporting delivery of training to students and Band 5 and 6 dietitians and other health care professionals such as the 0 -19 service, alongside service development, sourcing and developing relevant resources, guidelines and input into strategic pathway development.

The role is suitable for those looking to progress their career and gain experience in community dietetics at a senior level.

Interviews are expected to take place on 17th April 2024.

Main duties of the job

The role requires you to have good knowledge and practical experience in nutrition and dietetics. You will need to have some knowledge of working with children and families and ideally experience of working in the community, this it is not essential.

You will need to demonstrate strong leadership skills to support and drive the team of Adult and Paediatric Dietitians. Working closely with the Clinical Service Manager to develop the existing community service to ensure delivery of safe, efficient and effective services.

You will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible approach, and the ability to manage your own workload under pressure.

Job Purpose

  • To lead a small team of community paediatric and adult dietitians providing a clinical dietetic service within Nottingham City.
  • To undertake the role of lead dietitian for the community adult and paediatric teams who provide the dietetic management of adults and children within Nottingham City, supporting the team to provide expertise to service users, including parents and carers and other healthcare professionals in relation to nutrition and dietetics. To act as a source of expertise supporting clinical supervision and continuing professional development within the specialist teams
  • To lead on strategic projects involving development of clinical dietetic services.
  • To undertake paediatric clinics delivering a clinically effective, community paediatric service to primary care health teams, community child health and other stakeholders across Nottingham City.
  • To develop, deliver and evaluate training programmes for healthcare professionals and students on clinical nutrition for infants, children, and young people up to the age of 19years.
  • To support the adult team to maintain, develop and provide education and training on Long Term Conditions and related co morbidities to health care professionals, other relevant professions, students, patients, and the public.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Interpreting complex information provided from paediatric referrals, interviewing families in clinics, by telephone, video link, this will include domiciliary settings where appropriate.
  • To undertaking dietetic assessments/diagnosis to inform cost effective individualised treatment and follow up plans.
  • Conducting, overseeing, and advising on triage of newly referred paediatric patients.
  • Providing and receiving highly complex and potentially sensitive information from families and children from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Advising on the diagnosis and medical management of nutritionally related conditions in infants particularly food allergy, gastro-oesophageal reflux in liaison with medical staff
  • To support the adult team, interpreting and prioritising relevant referrals from a variety of health and social service professionals for patients requiring LTC management and ONS
  • To develop individual patients centered care plans based on nutritional diagnosis including interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical condition, growth parameters, medication, diet history, family, and social history.
  • To actively lead on the education and clinical updating of all health professionals including dietetic students.
  • Communicating therapeutic dietary advice and treatment recommendations to a variety of health and social service professionals and making referrals to these professionals as appropriate.
  • Attending Multi-Disciplinary team case conferences as required.
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records.

  • Undertaking data collection e.g., the use of SystmOne and other packages to collect patient data statistics and undertake audit.
