Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity within Nottingham CityCares MOSAIC (Musculoskeletal, Orthopaedic, Spinal, pain and Integrated Chronic fatigue syndrome) Service for a Rehabilitation Exercise Practitioner (REP) to join our team.

The MOSAIC Service takes pride in developing our staff, and as a Rehabilitation Exercise Practitioner, you will have the perfect opportunity to develop your career within a large, innovative, and friendly team that consists of experienced Physiotherapists, Advanced Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists and Pain Consultants.

As you join our team, not only will you have the guidance and supervision from our experienced staff, but you will also be able to develop your clinical experience managing your own caseload of patients in a 1:1 clinic or patient education & exercise classes.

As a service, we are committed to a strong ethos of continuous professional development, and as well as, receiving structured supervision from our experienced staff, you will have regular in-service training from internal and external speakers.

The ability to travel between clinic locations is essential. Working hours are ideally between 8am and 6pm, 5 days per week, but we are open to flexible working patterns for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

Once a patient has been assessed by one of our Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapist or Pain Consultant, your primary role will be to offer rehabilitation programmes for patients with a vast range of musculoskeletal conditions like back pain, shoulder complaints and sports injuries.

As a REP, you will:

  • Lead our exercise classes and provide individual rehabilitation programmes whilst using your knowledge to assess patient rehabilitation potential and progress/modify exercise regimes as appropriate.
  • Have the ability to follow rehabilitation plans set by therapists and then manage their rehabilitation progress appropriately.
  • Lead patient exercise and education exercises
  • Show initiative and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have the ability to prioritise their caseload and manage time effectively.
  • Flexible working within a team.
  • Have an understanding of working in a community MSK clinic setting.
  • Have an ability to provide support to our Sports Rehabilitation students on placement within the department.

Job Purpose

  • To work alongside the MOSAIC team to provide assessment and rehabilitation, including exercise groups, to people with musculoskeletal problems within the Nottingham City Community.
  • To deliver a rehabilitation service by providing assessments of health needs by working across professional boundaries and within legislation, policies and procedures and core values.

Dimensions

  • You will be working in a variety of community settings which may include a clients own home and out-patient clinics, setting up assessment and rehabilitation programmes for clients and assessing their equipment needs.
  • To participate actively in the services training strategy, including in-service training.

Key Responsibilities

  • To undertake assessment of service users needs who have been referred to the service. To interpret assessment information and plan and progress their intervention using judgement skills to decide upon and recommend best course of action.
  • To refer service users to external agencies and specialists when their needs are beyond the rehabilitation and exercise practitioner role.
  • To accept responsibility for a designated caseload, working independently, taking an active role in promoting independence and meeting the needs of the service user. To co-ordinate and lead exercise classes for musculoskeletal clients across the community, including exercise classes for CityCare staff and members of the public.
  • To promote well being, physical activity, safe mobility, and transfers. To provide instruction, advice and intervention to service users in line with the multi disciplinary team guidelines.
  • To assess, provide, fit and demonstrate use of a wide range of equipment to promote independence for patients on the Osteoarthritis of the Hip and Knee pathway.
  • To attend and contribute to team meetings and case discussions using effective communication.
  • To maintain comprehensive and accurate records in line with employers polices

  • Evidence of CPD in exercise / physical activity coaching

  • BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise or a related degree (Sports Science, Sports Rehabilitation, Fitness and Coaching etc), ideally with specialisation in Public Health

  • Ability to work out of hours
  • Full driving licence and the ability to travel between locations.
