Job summary

The successful candidate will work with the continuing healthcare team to identify the patients receiving CHC funding who meet the criteria for requiring a Deprivation of Liberty authorisation from the Court of Protection. You will be managing your own DOLs caseload and assisting case mangers and nurse assessors with the Court of Protection process.

You will be required to provide dedicated support to the continuing healthcare team for the continued development of patients who require Community DOL authorisation within the NHS continuing healthcare caseload.

You will prepare the necessary documentation to present before the court and present all new referrals to the ICB, liaising closely with internal and external professionals to ensure completion of all the required evidence and prepared within agreed timescales and to track and work to Court order deadlines.

You will be expected to support families and carers with queries around the process, in conjunction with the case managers. This will involve meeting patients face to face.

This post is an exciting opportunity to work ensuring community DOL authorisation are in place within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire County. The successful candidate will provide increased capacity to the current NHS Continuing care team to ensure that DOLs authorisations are implemented in an effective and timely way.

Main duties of the job

  • To act as a single point of contact for individuals and professionals across health and social care organisations to provide information and assistance in relation to all aspect of DOLs applications.
  • Develop protocols for own work, including the monitoring and development of the applications.
  • To research issues using a variety of sources to support specific enquiries and requests for information about DOL applications.
  • Develop and maintain links with partner organisations in order that DOL applications continue to work well for people.
  • To act as an ambassador for all aspects of DOL applications.
  • To carry out other specific tasks/projects appropriate to delivering the objectives of the Directorate as agreed with the Service Manager.

  • To liaise with all interested parties to inform them of how the application is progressing along with any outcome.
  • To complete the application and returned to the ICB in a timely manner in order to prevent unlawful deprivations of liberty within the community.
  • To ensure that renewal dates are monitored and applications submitted within the deadlines.
  • Implement policies and proposed changes to current practice.
  • Develop protocols for own work, including the monitoring and development of the applications.

  • Ensure adherence to Caldicott guidelines and Data Protection Act.
