Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and motived Occupational Therapist to join our well established leadership team. The successful candidate will oversee a small therapy team overseeing our provision into adult mental health services. The role will involve some service development, which will see setting up, running and evaluating the therapy team within our adult community and acute services. The successful candidate will report directly into the Allied Health Professional Lead and work closely alongside the current therapy team leads to ensure a streamlined service for our service users.

Main duties of the job

To develop, monitor and evaluate the Therapy service alongside the AHP lead.

To supervise and support a small team of Therapy staff

To hold a caseload of service users, both in the community and in our acute setting. Providing specialised assessment, intervention and evaluation of Occupational Therapy interventions.

To work alongside the therapy services leadership team to ensure streamlined services across the whole of Navigo.

To provide supervision and support to members of the Therapy Team.

To support the development of AHP students.

Candidates will maintain and develop effective communications and working relationships with both internal and external teams, reporting back outcomes of OT assessments and interventions.

To promote and implement creative ways of working with clients that show personalised and individualised interventions.

To promote education to service users, carers regarding outcomes of OT assessments, and similarly educate and support other Navigo staff working with clients in both community and acute settings.

Instigate, develop and maintain relationships with service users and/or carers, and support staff to facilitate accurate assessment and delivery of care.

To manage highly confidential information in accordance with local and national policy.

To Act as lead professional when indicated for specialist assessment where the main intervention is occupational therapy.

To promote the role of OT by feeding back in meetings, presentations and feedback of OT clinical activities. The candidate will have or be engaged in developing specialist knowledge and training, gained through formal training.

Have skills and experience in developing and facilitating training to staff and students.

To provide advice, training and support to other agencies around issues relating to mental health, and if indicated physical health needs .

Maintain CPD portfolio to demonstrate lifelong learning and professional competence. The candidate will be able to make decisions about the range of options for OT interventions and care plans based on clinical judgement of a service users need.

To conduct comprehensive OT assessments of both service users and carers in line with team operational policies.

Analyse service users occupational performance areas and adapt interventions as required in order to maximise and maintain service users skills and function.

To formulate detailed assessments to inform the decision-making regarding service users ongoing needs.

To plan and coordinate OT care packages for both individuals and groups according to their identified occupational needs.

To coordinate transfer of referral of clients to other teams or services where required.

To priorities, plan and coordinate own workload and activities in line with the changing needs of the team and service. This includes planning and monitoring service user occupational needs and presentation, conducting assessments, ensuring patient records are up to date and supporting colleagues on a daily basis.
