Job summary

The post holder will support administration and delivery of the National Child Measurement Programme across the borough. The role includes liaising with schools, setting up webinars, managing the School Health Team inbox and administrative processes.

The successful candidate will need to have excellent communication skills with both children and adults and the ability to work autonomously at times, as well as part of a team. An understanding of school and health organisations would be beneficial but not essential.

Staff are encouraged and supported to access opportunities for training and development to enhance and develop their practice in line with the commissioned service. In this years staff survey 92% of School Health staff reported that they have access to the learning and development they need to do their job well.

Main duties of the job

To provide administrative and practical support to the School Health Service.

To support delivery of the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) in primary schools across the borough in line with local and national policy

To assist in the delivery of interventions to promote the health and wellbeing of the school age population.

The team provides services to state funded schools located in Kingston Upon Thames. Activities focus on the current public health agenda, aimed at promoting and safeguarding childrens health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities in the population.

Job responsibilities

Dimensions:

NCMP and service user contacts

  • To coordinate communications between schools, the School Health Team and parents that are required for delivery of the National Child Measurement Programme.
  • To Identify children whose parents have withdrawn consent for growth measurements of their child and ensure that this is communicated and recorded.
  • Complete growth measurements as per the NCMP operational guidance and locally agreed policy and guidance. Ensure that measurements are recorded and transported, with due regard to agreed processes, in line with data protection and maintaining confidentiality of information.
  • To record each childs measurements on the childs electronic health record.
  • Communicate and interact with children in an age appropriate way to ensure that they feel at ease, understand the activity the post holder is completing with them and are able to give their consent as appropriate to their age.
  • To liaise with the information management team regarding the processing of NCMP data and communications to parents following growth measurements.
  • To be able to identify child safeguarding concerns (training will be provided) and take appropriate action as per child safeguarding policy and guidelines.
  • Create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships between the School Health Team and the boroughs schools.
  • To assist in the delivery of health promoting activities where appropriate training has been provided and with supervision.
  • To ensure accurate and contemporaneous record keeping on the electronic record.
  • Collecting and recording activity monitoring data as required.

Administration

  • To complete administration processes for referrals and information received by the service.
  • To complete administration activities related to partner requests for School Health services.
  • To complete administration activities that relate to specific workstreams delivered by the School Health Service

Communications and working relationships

  • To effectively communicate with service users and partners ensuring that any reasonable adjustments are identified and made.
  • To support the school health team in developing innovative practice.
