Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to train as a Registered Nurse Associate.
Working with and being supported by the Community Nursing team or Cedars rehabilitation ward, you will be a full-time apprentice. Commencing September 2024 you will be attending Kingston University for the theoretical component and practical work learnt within Your Healthcare and placements at other healthcare providers.
Main duties of the job
Learning and studying over 2 years you will learn all the skills and knowledge required to become a Nurse Associate.

You will need to have GCSE at grade 4 or above (or grade C or above for GCSEs taken before 2017) in English Language and Mathematics or equivalent qualification e.g. Functional/Key skills level 2 in numeracy and literacy.
Good IT skills and previous experience or an interest in Healthcare is also required.
As most of the role involves visiting clients in their homes, being able to drive is required or a willingness to learn, plus access to a vehicle.

2. Job Purpose
This is a two-year developmental role. The apprentice will work towards completing Nursing Associate training which includes a level 5 Foundation Degree qualification. By successfully completing the programme the apprentice can apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Council to be registered as a Nurse Associate.
The Nursing Associate apprenticeship programme combines academic and work-based learning. The trainee Nursing Associate will be based as an employee within a community team of Your Healthcare. In order to gain the knowledge and clinical skills required by the Nursing & Midwifery Council to qualify as a nursing associate the trainee will be expected to work in their base placement and over the two years also experience a range of external placements within Your Healthcare and neighbouring organisations which may include wards, clinics, operating theatres, etc. One day a week will be spent at Kingston University gaining theoretical knowledge required to meet the academic standards. By the end of the programme the trainee nursing associate will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours required to apply for a Registered Nursing Associate position. The Nursing Associate role is a generic role, therefore once qualified the Registered Nursing Associate will be equipped to work in a range of clinical settings.
Duties and Responsibilities
v Deliver high quality compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered health professional) with a focus on promoting health and independence
v Have proficient attitudes and behaviours in line with Your Healthcares culture and values
v Work as part of a team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual
v Carry out specific delegated clinical/care tasks and responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered health professional ensuring the delegated task is within the role of a trainee nursing associate.
v Ensure privacy, dignity and safety of patients is maintained at all times
v To always raise any concerns of a delegated task which you have not been prepared for or have the knowledge to undertake, actively sourcing ways of gaining the knowledge and experience for the future providing it is within the scope of a nursing associate role.
v Work with allocated Assessors and Supervisors, taking responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace, while on placements and through attending the Nursing Associate Training Programme
v Communicate effectively across a wide range of channels with individuals, the public, health and social care professionals/members of the multidisciplinary team
v Demonstrate inter-personal skills that promote clarity, compassion, empathy, respect and trust
v Communicate with patients, carers and others in a courteous and helpful manner, being mindful there may be barriers to understanding
v Ensure all patient related information is treated sensitively and adhere to the principals of confidentiality at all times
v Report any accidents or incidents and raise any concerns as per organisational policy
v Ensure clear, concise, accurate and legible records, both electronic and hand written, are written in line with Your Healthcare policies
