The post holder will develop and manage a programme of work to ensure that we meet peoples information and communication support needs. It will include identifying and planning training and learning opportunities and sharing best practice working.

The Accessible Communications & Engagement Lead role sits within our Communications team. The role involves work across the organisation and beyond, growing a network of communities of interest and experts by experience, therefore, the post holder will also have strong strategic connections to the Partnerships and Community Development team and Head of Patient Experience.

This role is hybrid - with travel across our bases in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire

Main duties of the job

The post holder's priority will be to ensure we meet the national NHS Accessible Information Standard in identifying, recording, highlighting, sharing and meeting the information and communication support needs of patients, service users, carers and parents, where those needs relate to a disability, impairment or sensory loss.

They will provide ongoing leadership and will use their excellent communication skills to ensure the development of health information and accessible communication for people in our care in relation to need.

The person will develop and deliver a three-year accessibility strategy and plan a programme of campaigns, training and learning opportunities.

The post holder will support teams to develop and maintain continuity of process across services. This includes working with Digital teams on the development of patient record systems to enable best practice recording and sharing of peoples needs.

The role requires a significant element of engagement both internally and externally with a wide range of stakeholders. This includes system partners, people with lived experience and VCSE sector organisations representing the range of people with protected characteristics.
