Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Stroke Service

Job summary

An exciting time to be joining the Integrated Community Stroke Service in North Somerset as we lead the changes to stroke care in our area. This role works as part of a multidisciplinary team seeing people for stroke rehabilitation, advice and support in their own homes. It is part of a team of stroke specialist speech and language therapists as well as being part of a wider speech and language therapy network across Sirona.

The role offers opportunities for professional development particularly in the field of aphasia rehab but also in dysphagia, interdisciplinary working and leadership skills. There is the opportunity to supervise other staff and also plenty of service development opportunities as we continue to improve the service we provide.

The post holder would work in a very supportive team which champions person-centred, high quality rehabilitation and a self-management approach and is part of a wider “one stroke workforce” offering opportunities to link with other professionals across the stroke pathway.

Main duties of the job

This role will provide assessment, rehabilitation, advice and support for people with communication and swallowing problems after stroke and will work with the multidisciplinary team to plan discharges from hospital and triage referrals.

They will provide training and formal and informal clinical supervision to other Speech and Language Therapists and Rehab Support workers as well as the multidisciplinary team.

They will work with other team members on service development, evaluation and audit and demonstrate specialism in the area of stroke rehabilitation

They will work closely with the voluntary sector and acute colleagues to create a joined up high quality service
