Are you excited by the prospect of working in a forward-thinking MSK service?
We are
excited to recruit FCPs in the Yate & Frampton PCN, incorporating the Courtside, Westwalk, Frome Valley, Kennedy Way and Wellington Rd Street GP surgeries. The successful candidate would be working in
the same PCN as experienced 8a FCPs. We have 0.5 WTE available but other working patterns can be discussed.
These posts benefit from full integration with the wider MSK pathway including access to MSK physiotherapy and interface services, peer support and advice from interface and secondary care colleagues, a robust governance framework, and direct referral links with acute providers across including radiology, pain services and orthopaedics.
Due to the integrated nature of our service, there are opportunities to discuss portfolio roles appropriate to your experience and career aspirations. We are currently recruiting for the following roles which can be discussed at interview:
- B7 & B8a FCP (variety of locations)
- B8a Advanced MSK Physiotherapist
- B8a MSK Interface and FCP Lead
- B7 MSK Physiotherapist
Main duties of the job
As an autonomous practitioner you will provide high level clinical assessment and management plans for self-referred patients, often with challenging presentations and complex needs. Depending on your experience you will either receive training for or have access to the following to facilitate effective patient care:
• Shared Decision Making
• Evidence based patient information website
• Signposting to local healthier lifestyle providers and recommended applications (apps)
• Diagnostic investigation via local providers under a standardised protocol including X ray, Ultrasound, MRI and Bloods
• Direct referral access to secondary care pathways inc Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Pain service, Community services
• Musculoskeletal Injection Therapy
• Interventional Radiology via standardised protocol including US guided injections
• Non-medical Prescribing
The role will also benefit from close working relationships with primary care colleagues through attending practice meetings, GP mentoring, delivering multi-disciplinary training, reporting on data regarding the FCP service and working with GPs, practice managers and FCP colleagues to recommend improvements in the FCP delivery model for the benefit of all Bristol/South Gloucestershire patients.

- Develops clinical competency in MSK diagnostic referral including evidence of understanding the choice of diagnostic investigations (Including, blood tests, Imaging, diagnostic injections), including sensitivity and specificity of different investigations for specific conditions.
- Develops experience and competency in processing investigation results/reports in the context of the clinical findings and the patient pathway to make appropriate an plan for best evidence based treatment with the patient.
- Works within Scope of practice and recognise when further specialist opinion from advanced MSK FCP physiotherapist is required for potential referral for further investigation or onward referral.
Draws from highly specialist clinical knowledge and uses high level differential diagnostic skills and pattern recognition to plan and execute highly skilled physical examination to further inform shared decision making and patients care plan in complex patients, frequently with multi pathology patients and complex physical and emotional needs where adaption of routine assessment is required.Offers specialist, evidence based, advice to patients about their condition/prognosis and treatment options available, utilising shared decision making, with use of diagnostics where competency allows, to inform decision making/reasoning / facilitating effective individual patient management within the scope of the MSK FCP physiotherapist.
