This job is now closed

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Diabetes and Nutrition Service (DANS) as a Band 6 Community Dietitian. The service is undergoing a period of significant growth and development, as part of a Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG)-wide transformation of community adult services into one of the largest community services in England.

As a specialist service we work closely with other Sirona care & health services including the Community Learning Disabilities Team, Tissue Viability Team, Respiratory Team and Bladder and Bowel (BABS) Specialist Services and the new BNSSG Early Supported Discharge (ESD) stroke pathway as part of the new Integrated Community Stroke Service (ICSS). Together with our community Integrated Network Teams (INT’s) and primary, secondary, and social care partners.

Our service users can have a variety of clinical conditions such as stroke, progressive neurological diseases, learning disabilities and diabetes. This means that they often have a range of complex health needs, such as eating and drinking difficulties, and additional communication needs.

The DANS specification includes the delivery of structured education across BNSSG for type 1 and type 2 diabetes alongside the Services Specialist Nurses.

Main duties of the job

This is a new dietetic post which will have a nutritional support focus, working with service users with a variety of clinical conditions such as stroke, progressive neurological diseases, learning disabilities and diabetes. These service users often have a range of complex health needs, such as eating and drinking difficulties, and additional communication needs. You will have the opportunity to work across a range of different settings including rehabilitation units, residential care homes, service user’s own homes and in a clinic environment where we have adopted a hybrid working model meaning that dietetic interventions could take place by telephone, video consultation or face-to-face.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity, together with the Clinical Leads for Nutrition and Dietetics, to shape how this role integrates and evolves.

In line with the Diabetes and Nutrition Service specification, as a Band 6 you may have the opportunity to co-deliver (alongside the Service’s Specialist Nurses) on the structured education programme for type 1 and type 2 diabetes across BNSSG, depending on previous clinical experience.

You will have the opportunity to work with and supervise colleagues. This role is suitable for a Band 5 Dietitian looking for the next step in their career, or a Band 6 Dietitian looking for a fresh challenge.
